Bishop Jackson: What, Me Homophobic?

Bishop_Harry_JacksonX390.jpg

The growing list of marriage equality opponents that deny their position is rooted in homophobia includes Bishop Harry Jackson Jr., the Pentecostal minister fighting against same-sex marriage legislation in Washington, D.C.

Jackson is the subject of a notably one-sided profile in The Washington Post on Wednesday.

"I just feel like I'm on a mission," says Jackson of his work to prevent marriage equality. "It's not a mission of hate. It's a mission to protect godly boundaries."

Like Rubén Díaz Sr., a fellow Pentecostal minister who opposes the marriage equality bill awaiting a vote in the New York state senate, Jackson offers words of praise for the gay people in his life, including those he met as an undergraduate at Williams College.

"Some of the smartest people I knew in college were gay," he says. "Some black students I knew who were gay were off-the-charts smart."

For Jackson, opposition to marriage equality is rooted in his concern for the challenges facing the black family in America, according to the Post.

"I don't know of anybody black who says, 'I hate gay people.' We're more accepting generally. But you overlap that — homosexuality and gay marriage — with broken families, and we don't know how to put it back together."

Hi Jackson, you are not protecting godly boundaries but you are giving GOD a bad name. You are a product of christian misled teachings, so repent. If you want to learn a true GOD's teachings, please do not hesitate to call me.

Wow, I've heard some pretty convoluted rationalizations for closeted anti-gay bigotry before, but this takes the cake. I wonder if the Rev realizes he's saying "some of my best friends are gay".

Why can't male on male love be an ancient theme celebrated by biblical scholars in the generations? Jesus didn't talk about homosexuality, but he probably recognized some of it and saw the holy commitment to it (no sex before marriage, hence the soldier blessing). www.theothersheep.org LGBT Christians unite and save the misinformed and bible torturers from their flaming eternity!!!!

"For Jackson, opposition to marriage equality is rooted in his concern for the challenges facing the black family in America, according to the Post." So, gay marriage equality equals the destruction of every black coupling... including all gay black couples? Dear god, he's been frequenting the same dealer as Marion Berry. "Crack's Whack!" It's so very sad that those whom society has so cruelly beaten down, for so many years, have themselves risen up, only to look for the new whipping post; LGBT's. I sincerely hope you eventually find a 'Get Out of Hell Free' card, otherwise, it's going to be 'Pineapple Time with Hitler.'

It is interesting that they spend all this time obsessing over gay marriage instead of advocating towards Jesus' true teachings which were no divorce and compassion for your fellow man, never judge, etc. etc. But their focus is so rigidly about trying to stop one group from succeeding and making a life for themselves. I will never understand that.

Jesus Christ said nothing about homosexuality. However, he IS quoted 5 TIMES in the Bible prohibiting divorce. If Mr. Jackson is so concerned about the state of the family and living in accordance with the teachings of Christ, why is he not advocating for a ban on divorce!? I think we all know the reason...

Here are a couple of interesting tidbits from their little book of myth that I've never heard one of them make any comment on...One story of Jesus healing the "servant" of a Roman soldier (his male lover, according to some biblical scholars) and "Ruth loved Naomi as Adam loved Eve." You can't hide stupid just as you can't cover up hatred/bigotry.
