Handler to Colfer: "We Know You're Gay"

CHELSEA HANDLER CHRIS COLFER PROMO SHOTS X390 | Advocate.com

Razor-tongued comedian Chelsea Handler put those Chris Colfer “gay” rumors to rest when the 19-year-old star of Glee appeared on her show, Chelsea Lately, on Thursday.

After a brief getting-to-know-you session, Handler complimented Colfer’s breakout hit show Glee and launched into a few statements on his sexuality.

“Your character is gay, and we know you're gay,” she said. Colfer replied with a faint “yes” to both assertions.

Handler, who acted as grand marshal of this year’s Christopher Street West Los Angeles Gay Pride parade, continued on, referring to much recent ado in the media about Colfer’s sexuality.

“Don’t be shy about that, because there was all of that hubbub before,” she said. She then spoke about how Colfer’s being openly gay can help hundreds of other gay people.

Colfer added playfully, "My answer to that question was, prior to coming out, that I was as straight as every other actor in Hollywood."

Answered Handler: "I don't know who you're referring to. I've never seen Valkyrie."

Earlier this year, Colfer talked about coming out in high school with Advocate.com, but he has never actually publicly come out.

@Valerie I'm gay, I'm almost nineteen, and I've been out of the closet for over a year now. Plus, look at Chris, he is very obviously gay. I don't think it really matters what age you are when you figure out sexual orientation and things like that.

Oh for crying out loud he's 19 (NINETEEN!) years old he probably isn't sure if he's gay or straight or bi or whatnot. I was just starting to date at that age and fine my own sexuality - as were my friends. Now at 36 I know I lean mostly straight and other friends have figured out they are gay or mostly gay, or straight or bi - but it took awhile to find that data out. The reason he's probably 'coy' is because he's still quite young not because he's purposely hiding anything, probably just wants privacy to figure it out. Celebrity or not don't we all deserve that?

Please. Yes, maybe if he was actually in the closet at the time...But as a gay man, I know that if you're comfortable with yourself, someone saying it isn't a problem. It is obvious that he's gay and he hasn't been trying to hide it.

What she did is very rude, if in fact he is gay he should be allowed to say so himself without a prissy rude woman talking down to him. I only knew that he was gay after reading an interview where he admitted it, simply assuming that someone is gay can cause all kinds of problems.

Colfer of "Glee" is gay? Naaa can't be. Is the Pope now Jewish? Come on. Colfer is as gay as Walt Whitman. Both blazed trails. Colfer is making Glee Club cool again. The show reflects changing trends in thinking. The changes have been on the walls for years we just need to let the homophobically right-wingers in on the secret.

umm. he plays the gayest kid ever on the show glee. like a young jack mcfarlene. and in real life if youve seen the excerpts of the casting of each character you can tell from him acting as himself normally hes GAY. no straight kid acts that feminine. Handler didnt blast him to the world with that blunt question because he already cameout officially to the advocate. blame fox for trying to downplay him being gay. again, Handler is great and supports gay rights.

Chelsea Handler was one of the few celebrities who opened their pocketbook and gave to the fight against Prop 8. She has always been a great supporter to the LGBT community. You'd be surprised at the number of famous people who say they support us but then refuse to give a dime when our rights are on the line. The Hiltons and Kardashians like to do their little "No Hate" photo shoots but they didn't give one cent to fight Prop 8. I will also respect Chelsea for giving to our casue. You can actually find websites where you can see who gave and who didn't.
