Christian Calls for Boycott of Houston

ANNISE PARKER X390 (PARKER4HOUSTON) | ADVOCATE.COM

A Christian pastor in Texas is calling for an economic boycott of Houston because of the election of gay mayor Annise Parker (pictured) and the city’s plan to build one of the nation's largest Planned Parenthood facilities.

According to the Houston Press, Amarillo-based pastor David Grisham launched the boycott recently to provide a way for Texans to “take a stand for righteousness in the city of Houston."

"This is not about the mayor personally," said Grisham, according to the Press. "It's not about personality, it's about principle. The election of an [openly] homosexual person to a major public office brings with it a radical homosexual agenda. That in and of itself makes a statement,” he said.

Wait a minute!?! They've taken our rights away for marriage equality, and now they want us to remain locked inside a closet?!? Do we get the same rights as our neighbors, parents, grandparents, friends, siblings, ??? Why don't they require us to be on a leash?!? or drink from a bowl of water, instead of a glass?!? Are these people demons in human form?!? Nobody deserves to take away our jobs, because we are gay. I mean suppose there was a LGBT valedictorian of Harvard that wants to become a mayor, senator, or congressman/woman? Do they get their education revoked because we love the same sex? REALLY?!? I believe that people should have the right to worship whatever they want. But when they start taking rights away? That's evil. God or procreation, has had "LGBT" in our history since day 1. Now that these religious bigots have all of the "power" they want to assign us our rights? Am I living in a 3rd world nation?!?

Bx, I couldn't disagree more. Our founding fathers argued quite a lot when discussing how to deal with the British. I believe discussions like this are more likely to strengthen us in the long run.

David Grisham, get a real job and quit taking money from the people that you instill fear in you HATE MONGER! Let's boycott Christianity; if all the LGBT community would do that instead of pandering to religion like it had an validity, we could bring these bigots to their knees. Oh, the Catholics priests and many evangelicals are already on their knees blowing young innocent boys.

Why are you all arguing about Christianity? You are taking your eyes off the ball just like they want you to...breaking us apart from the inside. Be glad to continue this discussion AFTER we have all our civil rights.

I can't believe I even need to explain myself. I never said I was a christian (hence refering to christians as "they" instead of "we"). I was merely refering to the fact that most self proclaimed christians don't think people who don't believe the bible is the word of god are christians. I personally am agnostic. I have believed everything JT believes in the past. It is nothing new to me. I hope that someday, most sef proclaimed christians do believe what JT believes. But the entire point of my posts is that most self proclaimed christians believe that a requirement to being a christian is the belief that the bible is the word of god. Please wake up to the world around you. Most christians believe that they deserve more rights than us, and this belief is faith based.

To Nathan: "JT, it is NOT BS. Most self proclaimed christians, whether you consider them christians or not, would not consider you a christian if you don't believe that the bible is the word of god." Nathan, there have been so many translations, deliberate omissions and changes in the bible that it no longer is representative of the original Aramic text. Also, the first books of the bible were written 50 years after JC died. Ah, stop and think a bit. How much can a story change over the course of 50 years? Humans just can't resist convenient memory. Thus, the book you so adamantly defend as the word of god as been interpreted, changed and doctored to make people blind sheep.

Thanks Sam B. Though I wouldn't go so far as to call them morons. I think they're mostly in need of a helping hand. Most gay Christians have one more hurdle of acceptance to go through. It takes a big step to come out and announce we're gay. It takes another to sit down, use our brains, and realize that the whole religion thing is a line of crap and to come out an renounce it. Problem is, coming out as gay risks relationships with family and friends while we're alive. Dropping the Christian/Jewish/Islamic/etc beliefs requires them risk their post-life security. To some of us it's a no brainer: religion hates us (sorry gang, read it, it's true), and once we start to investigate, there is virtually no proof that god is anything but a myth. I understand that down south of the border agnostics and atheists are sometimes regarded in the same vein as men-from-mars. But to debate religion and our social standing in it, is pointless if we do it in the context of the Bible.

Could we all just agree on one finding of fact? To believe in any God requires a suspension of reason. Christian historical tradition accounts for this. It is called in one context at least "the leap of faith" So as the friendly sort of respectful guy I am, I say hmm ok that's interesting to my superstitious friends and neighbors, but their perspectives founded on self acknowledged abandonment of reason don't belong in discussions of formulating public policy. I mean gee, if you really believe Santa is coming on Christmas Eve, I don't want to rain on your parade. Just don't ask me to include your believe about that in discussions operating on a premise of reasonable thought. Santa and Jesus as God /creator are as equally implausible to rational thought as the Easter bunny. Christianity is extremely primitive superstition.

Just another victim of rightwing christianity. Which turns people into psychopaths in the name of God. Their life is crumbling before them. Too bad we cant pass a bill to deny these particular types any government sponsored benefits, like medicare. The sooner they go the better. Was Jeramiah almost right when he said "god damn america" . If he had simply referred to the christian right, who were the slavers and segregationists of America, and now have a new group to hate, he should be called a hero. We never really fininshed the civil war. With a nuremburg style trial, and the much quicker execution of thousands of Nazis done after WWII for beign not just the unwitting or unwilling dupes, but for being repsonisble for history's greatest conflagration

'"It's not about personality, it's about principle. The election of an [openly] homosexual person to a major public office brings with it a radical homosexual agenda. That in and of itself makes a statement,” he said.' And how is that any different than an openly straight person being elected to office. They bring in their heterosexual agenda as well, and if for one second anyone thinks that isn't true, they are wrong. People always talk about the gay agenda, but no one ever even realizes that the exact same thing goes for heterosexual people. Just like in our school systems. Every day kids learn about straight relationships, they learn about marriage, but when any homosexual aspect is brought into play there is an uproar, and it is all over the media. Just think for one second if a gay parent didn't want their children to learn about anything involving heterosexuality. There wouldn't be a single textbook that kids could read out of.
