See the El Paso Times Ad Calling Gays "Depraved"

TRUE PASTORAL CARE FOR HOMOSEXUALS X560 (FULL VERSION) | ADVOCATE.COM

A full-page ad that ran in Saturday's El Paso Times that used words like "poison," "evil," and "putrid" to describe homosexuality has been removed from the newspaper's digital edition.

The advertisement comes from Michael Rodriguez, a local Catholic priest who has a vendetta against gays that the El Paso Times has given a forum to before.

The El Paso Times was contacted several times by The Advocate, but the newspaper has not yet released a statement on the ad or its advertisement policies. A writer from the El Paso Times did indicate that many people were unhappy with their decision to run the ad and that the paper was working on their own story concerning the matter. The ad reached approximately 108,000 people, the circulation of the El Paso Times.

@ Ben H. from Atlanta: What did you base your judgment when you say, they are all fake...? As if you are saying the whole police institution is fake because some of them are bad, as you are saying all teachers are bad or face because some of them have sexual relationships with their minor students, as if you are saying all doctors are screw up because some of them are drug dealers, etc. etc... It is being Catholic does not make you saint. Priests are human also. Some are Saints, other are not, some are great while some others are mentally ill, just like you are!

I believe strongly that there are more repressed homosexuals in the catholic church priesthoood and "leadership" per capita than anywhere else. So their comments are not surprising. I remember being on vacation in Key West a few yrs back and there were 3 guys staying there for the week. One was a high up priest in the catholic church and one of the 3 guy's father died while they were there. The high up priest did not want to reveal to the guy whose father died that he was a priest to comfort him because he was there screwing around on the down low and did not want anyone to know. They are all fakes. From the low priest to the high pope.

People need to stop parsing Leviticus. The Levitican code applied to the ancient Israelites and no one else! Christians have never been bound by the Levitican code. As for the Apostle Paul's supposed condemnations of same-gender sexuality, I don't doubt that he found it abhorrent, but his criticisms were aimed at idol-worshiping temple prostitutes and Sodomite rapists, not at what we understand to be Gay people. I am one who believes Paul might have been Gay himself. At any rate, it was God that made the law, not Paul, and the Son of God affirmed Gay identity (Matthew 19).

What do you think would happen to these monsters if they called black people these things. Oh, that's right, they wouldn't. Black people who fight back.

Being a former Catholic, I've never said "Jesus Christ!" or "Good Lord Almighty!" or "Good God!" more than when I have read in the last 10 years what's been going on with the Church. For an organization that's in the business of so-called saving souls, they seem quite soul-less themselves.

First of all, I find the "loving" tone to be reassuring. It's nice that he's being such a good Christian. It's good that he ended with a part of the sentence "ora pro nobis..." but left out the word "peccatoribus" which means that even the speaker is a sinner. Convenient. It's also convenient to say that anyone who denies the church is a fraud and therefore has no argument, but he is free to deny scientists, human rights groups, people themselves, and the governments of other peoples (as well as the UN). That makes for a nice, fair fight. What a joke. And the line about inflicting another wound upon Jesus? Are you really going to be that arrogant as to blaspheme to scare people into a gay witch hunt? Nobody is above decency, and a priest who purports to be so godly should be above such blasphemy!

@ Robert W. You're right. Fr. Rodríguez is merely repeating the teachings of the Church. Buybull verses don't mean diddly-squat to the Church; they take second or third seat to Church doctrine and the authority of the Pope. Because of this, some protestant sects don't even consider the Roman Catholic Church to be christian. In any case, religion is a disease we'd all be better off without.

You got to hand it to these idiots that are not informed of what it means to be gay. The fact that the paper would even decide to publish it is wrong they need to print a retraction in the paper and apologize both via their online paper and the paper itself. I am appalled that Texans would be o.k. with the name calling of their own sons and daughters who are gay. Texas GLBT so needs to shove the gay rights down their throats and get the bandwagon rolling on overturning the laws that allow this sort of thing to be published.
