Award-winning
playwright Terrence McNally will lead a public discussion
on midlife issues affecting gay men, including the need for
greater HIV prevention efforts, at a forum held May 16
in New York City. The event is organized by the HIV
Forum. Epidemiological data shows that up to 30% of
new HIV infections occurring in New York City are among gay
men over the age of 40, but HIV prevention efforts
rarely target older gay men, forum officials say. "Gay
baby boomers have lived most of their adult lives
through the lens of HIV/AIDS, experiencing the loss of
partners, friends, and people in their community,"
says event organizer Bruce Kellerhouse. "This forum
will give voice to midlife gay men's experience of
surviving HIV and consider opportunities for healing and
thriving." The event will be held 7-9 p.m. at the Fashion
Institute of Technology's Haft Auditorium, located on
West 27th Street between 6th and 7th avenues.
Admission is free.
