Following in the footsteps of J.K. Rowling and Sarah Palin, Ellen DeGeneres is about to get the comic book treatment.

Bluewater Productions’ Female Force, which is behind the biographical comic series that has already tackled Palin, Rowling, and Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, will release its book on Ellen in March.

"People forget what a groundbreaking talent [Ellen] is and that fame did not come overnight," Bluewater president Darren Davis said in a statement. "But through all her highs and lows, she managed to stay true to herself and prove that she is a female force."

Check out a five-page preview of the Ellen comic book here.

This Comic book looks fun. I've always been a fan of Ellen's. I think she is a charming beautiful woman who has built a career first by laughing at herself, then by being herself. Her humor isn't cruel, and though sometimes some of us may wish she was a little more confrontational with some of her guests, she gets her point across. Her honesty about her life has helped the GLBT community build good will and understanding in the larger community. Because of her empathy and desire to help, she has used her celebrity to bring money and attention to worthy causes from the rebuilding of New Orleans after Katrina, and her child and animal causes, to the fight against proposition 8. As both an entertainer and business woman, self promotion is her job. When I read some of the comments below, I don't understand why all the criticism. I understand some people maybe want her to be involved in other issues closer to their heart, but that shouldn't erase the good that Ellen does.

Ellen is a great lady, there really isn't anything to not like about her. That's amazing that some are finding something negative, I guess I don't see it. I don't watch her show, but have seen it, she's always fun and lighthearted and warm with her guests, just seems like a really nice person. Good for her I hope she has continued success.

There is truth in both points of view expressed here. Ellen HAS been a pioneer for all gay people in the world of television as well as in the culture at learge. Her coming-out in 1997 while "Ellen" was grossing high ratings was a gay history milestone, and her subsequent travails were personally and prprofessionally very costly. Ellen's courage in dealing with those problems and her eventual triumph to become not only a gay icon but a mainstream cielebrity have helped bring the rest of us that much closer to social equality. OTOH, in recent years, Ellen has regressed into something of a self-parody with her bald self-promotion and increasingly inane tv program antics. She appears to care only for the profits she reaps. The show is undeniably stupid and appears to aim for the lowest common denominator. Unfortunately, Ellen seems to demonstrate self-awareness and humility only with crisis and loss. As long as her show is aired and she makes money, Ellen is unlikely to change.

I'm with you, Melvin. At least Ellen has always been an upbeat and positive example, not only of a gay woman but as a human being, as well. The gay (or straight, for that matter) celebrity can easily parade before the world enough crap about their private lives to satisfy anyone who would take notice. She hasn't done that, and I think her childhood, and the influence of her mother, have kept her solid.

My O My! Do I read a couple of 'bitchy queens' crabbing about some other gay person because she out does them? Why can't we as a gay community be happy for one of OUR own make a success? And on national television. Have either of you two watched her program? How much if so? I have and find her very entertaining and very upbeat. And yes my dear ole queens, she has spoken on her show about Prop 8 and a few other gay interest story lines. She is a pioneer breaking the barrier for gay entertainers. Do you remember her coming out on her other program? She received alot of guff for that. Do you remember the fundamentalists calling her Ellen 'De-generate?' She withstood on our airwaves for a couple of years. Lost her program. Like a phoenix she rose out of those ashes and has become a driving force for many women and some men. Instead of being envious of her success as a woman, an entertainer and a gay icon give her some credit. She does not have to carry your banners!! GEEZ

Another way for Ellen to promote herself, her schtick is getting tired, yeah she donates a lot of money to charity, unfortunately none of it is hers, Ellen's only interest in gay causes is there as for items that affect her precious marriage to Portia, she couldn't care less about anyone elses. She is not going to rock any boats, she likes the paycheck for that sad shows of hers which is a one hour advertisement for Ellen. I wonder how long her and Portia will be together, she was seeing Portia when she was still with her previous love interest. I notice when other states are proposing equal marriage rights, that she has nothing to say, she could have been a big help for Maine but said nothing, she has a lot of listeners but doesn't inform them of the truth about Focus on the Family or NOM. She speaks about being gay but only in a way that promotes Ellen and nobody else. She speaks about New Orleans still needing help and she raised millions of dollars, but not one house was built.

Ellen is following in Sarah Palin's footsteps.........why would she want to? Oh, I forget, she (both of she's) are all about the PR and the exposure---forget the message. Ellen is now on the gravy-train of "any publicity is good publicity, and the Advocate will post anything".......as long as she doesnt stand for anything (except standing for Ellen), it certainly works for all concerned. Ellen has become a parody of herself, and that is sad. Compare this to Brad Pitt, a hetero man married to an acknowledged bi-women, and nobody in that camp makes a big hoo-ha or needs 20 hours of TV airtime a wk., but rather, a couple who live thru actions (MANY nonprofit projects) and a dignity and level of class that should make Ellen wince. Sadly, it does not.
