Eminem Supports Gay Marriage

eminem x390

Eminem, the rapper long associated with gay-bashing rhymes, expressed his support for marriage equality on the eve of the release of his new album, Recovery.

Born Marshall Mathers, Eminem spoke with Deborah Solomon, the Q&A columnist for The New York Times Magazine, and said that his view reflects “the new tolerant me.”

“You’ve been accused of writing gay-bashing lyrics in the past,” said Solomon. “Would you like to see gay marriage approved in Michigan, where you live?”

Eminem replied, “I think if two people love each other, then what the hell? I think that everyone should have the chance to be equally miserable, if they want.”

The 37-year-old rapper has fought his drug addictions with help from Elton John, now in the headlines for his performance at the wedding reception of Rush Limbaugh. Eminem and John performed together at the 2001 Grammy Awards after an uproar over the rapper's antigay lyrics.

I've been a fan of Eminem's since I was 14. Even though I am gay, I did have my rap phase, and I still occasionally listen to his stuff. I don't care what kinda shit he wrote in the past. You hafta take everything Em' says on a track with a boulder of salt. He's a shock artist, like Marilyn Manson. And think about it, today the religious right are fighting us, but back in the 50's they were fighting mixed marriages and de-segregation using the Bible to back the hate of the time. I love that Em' said this, but if he really wants to impress the gay community, he should come out with a 6 minute long rap about the various ways he would murder the members of the Westboro Baptist Cult. That would make me lawl hard.

Did any of you watch the movie "8 Mile"? Eminem stood up for the gay black guy at the lunch truck! Those who said he hated gays were way off base anyway. And he did do that duet with Elton John...and everybody knew Elton John is gay.....including Eminem...so stop the bullshit rumours everybody!!!

Guess what? Elton John's participation in events involving homophobes sometimes bears fruit (you should pardon the word): after playing at the Lush Rambo wedding, his partner told the press Elton was simply trying to break down barriers by mixing with the "enemy." When he appeared with Eminem on national TV (I think it was the Grammy's), some of us criticized him because Eminem had said some very hurtful things about gays. Now, he comes out in support of gay marriage. Familiarity doesn't breed contempt; sometimes it breeds understanding and appreciation. Bravo for Eminem, and Sir Elton should be made our official Ambassador for LGBT rights.

If you are a follower of Eminem, you would know that he has long supported gay marriage in his lyrics. He has said nearly that exact quote in song. Way to break news that is 10 years old.
