Top Political Blogs

From Joe.My.God to The Daily Beast, Advocate.com spotlights a few of the best blogs that cover politics, inside and way outside the Beltway.

There's no denying that blogs are a major contributor to the daily news cycle, and as such, Advocate.com has decided to rank some of our favorites. Listed below with their Technorati ranking (a directory that takes on the task of ranking the number of websites that view you as a relevant news source) are some of the blogs we go to each morning to see what's happening in the political world.

The Bilerico Project : To be fair, Bilerico is a little bit of everything, but as the famous expression of the feminist movement goes, the personal is political. Bilerico deploys citizen journalists and experts across the country to report back to its loyal readers each day on events and the hot topics of the day. The big-name celebrities may lend their voices to The Huffington Post, but the insightful gays blog for Bilerico.
Technorati rank: 4,030

GayPatriot : Admittedly, many liberal gays probably would prefer to surround themselves with others who love the idea of universal health care and roar loudly for hate-crimes legislation. But Bruce Carroll and Dan Blatt at GayPatriot challenge all LGBT folks to question their leaders -- political and not -- and the issues that identify them. Though we might not agree with everything said there, GayPatriot provokes conversation, which all good political blogs should do. Besides, the greater GOP is not exactly in high regard right now, and the party's gays and their allies may be the ones who whip out the defibrillators to revive the compassionate heart of the Right. Technorati rank: 5,340

You left out my favorite blog, Political Animal at washingtonmonthly.com. Steve Benen is a powerhouse when writing, providing thoughtful insight on the days news, a round-up of items of state interest, and is high quality and high quantity. The reader comments can be just as insightful. Oh, and I agree about Politico. It has gone way down hill the last couple of years. And Tom, you may want to read that blurb again. The site is the Drudge ReTort.

Aside from our Boiled Frog Blog (Tips-Q), Kyle's blog at Right Wing Watch is a worthy addition. Also "Sexual orientation and the law blog." has some very worthwhile material from a lawyer.

The Drudge Report is no more a blog than is Yahoo! News. All Drudge does is write snarky headlines for other sites' stories.

I totally agree Paul. Politico is awful and spreads a lot of false information and has old fashioned views based only on the Washington bubble. Huffington Post is much better blog and a better representation of politics and gay rights.

    Comment:

Politico is a trashy gossip site and anything but "rigorous" and "accurate" journalism. It's insider-y in the worst sense of that word, in that it mainly presents the establishment viewpoint unadorned, usually unquestioned, and often completely unsubstantiated. Like most cable news outlets that don't investigate anything on their own, it masquerades as an unbiased presenter of common wisdom when what it actually presents is the narrow and myopic Washington, DC point of view rather than the views held by most Americans. Read Politico if you want to see the political DC clique talking into a mirror and being very impressed with themselves over non-stories like John Edwards' haircut while ignoring what politicians are likely to do concerning actual issues like healthcare, Iraq, global warming, energy and gay equality.
