Well I don't know what made me gay, and there seem to be lot of different factors that can lead to being gay, but I'd say that being in Menudo is definitely one of them... Oh, and congrats Ricky, you made us proud.

I just want to say congrat's to Ricky! We've all always heard the "rumors" that he was gay, and I am happy that he is finally comfortable in who he is, to be honest with himself and the world. I have always liked Ricky (not just because he is sexy) but now I respect him even more. Ricky if you are reading this, call me.....LOL!!!

Looking at the very handsome, masculine Ricky Martin, I wonder if his broad popularity hinges on his non-threatening, masculine, hetero-identified gestures and look. Just as Asians, Latinos, and African-Americans with lighter skin, more Anglo features, straight hair, etc., are more easily tolerated, is society accepting those among us who can "pass" or those who can assimilate because we pose less of a threat to the status quo than those of us who are completely different? While it's wonderful that Ricky Martin hasn't been bashed or discriminated against as openly as, say, Adam Lambert, Boy George, and countless other more flamboyant gays, it's sad that society hasn't truly opened their hearts and minds to those who are vastly different from the majority. Diversity - yeah, okay, but only if you're pretty close to being the same. Even the pioneers of the modern gay rights movement in the 50s knew this and dressed accordingly. People approve of others who are like themselves. Sad.
