Clementine Sets the Record "Straight"

Clementine Ford tackles daytime television on The Young & the Restless , sets the record "straight" on those L Word rumors and talks about her life on her terms.

Get ready Genoa City! Tomorrow, Mackenzie "Mac" Browning reappears on the canvas in the form of former L Word star, Clementine Ford. Best known for her role as Molly Kroll and as the eldest daughter of Hollywood favorite Cybill Shepherd, Clementine's foray into daytime is one of the most highly anticipated of the soap season.

For those who need a refresher course on Mac… she is the ex-girlfriend of Billy Abbott, who ran away to Darfur when it was revealed that they were cousins (shortly after they were married). Well, new DNA results this week involving her grandmother and Billy's mother will cause a seismic shift in relationships... and the drama begins!

However, in real life, Clementine has gone through drama of another kind. A recent interview with Diva UK Magazine, whose cover headline touted: "Clementine Ford Comes Out" left a bit of mess for the actress to clean up. The interview intimated that she slept with one of her L Word co-stars (she didn't) and put the subject of her sexuality center stage: "I am gay," she tells Advocate.com, "I just wanted there not to be this big emphasis on it."

Advocate.com chatted with Clementine about her exciting new adventure on the number one rated soap, The Young and the Restless , and to clear up any rumors or misrepresentations that her LGBT fans might want to know, and to tease us with what to expect in her new role!

Advocate.com: Congratulations on your new role. You are stepping into a role that is a recast on the top rated soap. What are your feelings about it and your experience, so far, doing daytime?
Clementine Ford: I am a lucky bitch! It's so nerve-wracking. It's like I felt on The L Word when I went into that core group who has been together forever. I was surprised because you hear horror stories about going in, and the intimidation of the group. I thought, "Well, this will never happen again," and then I get this job. I am nervous, but my friend, Y&R' s Greg Rikaart (Kevin), told me wonderful things about everyone on the show. And sure enough, everybody is great.

Being a sudser rookie, did your pal Greg Rikaart give you any soapy advice?
He said, "Keep going! In soaps everyday is a new day." I have gotten one piece of advice from the cast. They told me it's going to be one of the hardest jobs I've ever had, especially, the first little while 'til I hit my stride. Once I hit my stride it will be fine.

Clementine Ford is way too old looking to play this part. Second, she is NOT a good actress. She had no color in the way she speaks. She is just dull. She NEVER would have gotten this part, if her mother wasn't Cybil Shepard. There are TONS of great actors out there that would blow her away. Why should she get the opportunity to "perfect her craft" when there are so many talented actresses out there that never even got to auditon because Cybil Shepard's daughter got the part!

My sentiments exactly. She's toooooooo OLD!! Come on Y&R you couldn't find another actress for the part. Meaning...YOUNGER!! When she and Billy are together she looks like an older sister or even his mother. Please..it's not too late to rethink this role and get another Mac. Put her with Jack and then he can lose his love sick puppy act for Sharon.

I think Clementine Ford is doing a great job portraying Mac. I've liked the Billy & Mac pairing from the very beginning when they were portrayed by David Tom and Ashley Bashioum. It seems to me people are forgetting the true essence of the Mac character. Mac has always been a bit sullen; she doesn't show emotions all that much - they need to be brought out by someone else. Mac was never a cheery character. She's an old soul; she worries a lot. And Clementine is portraying her perfectly. Also good for Clementine for speaking out about being gay not having to be an "issue" anymore. Darn straight! I never understood this "fear" of gay people. Do straight people worry that being gay is contagious; that they will caught the gay virus?! I agree that including gay stories in "regular" movies & tv shows should no longer be groundbreaking: it should be normal, as it IS normal. Good job, Clementine!

Clemintine Ford looks too old to be playing Mackenzie Browning on Y & R. Also, she looks too MANLY for the part. She looks out of place .

To the person that wrote, "Sure hope there is no gayness on Y&R..." Wow! People like you are just the reason that television, (ESPECIALLY DAYTIME), still is NOT telling great, realistic, valuable GLBT stories! By the way, why would you even say that? Clementine Ford is a lesbian-what in the hell does that have to do with her as an actress? As if her homosexuality is "contagious!" Oh, wouldn't that be horrid! What if Clementine were a strict vegan! Would you automatically assume that the character of "Mac" would also be a strict vegan??? That is absurd. The real tragedy is the fact that there are such close-minded, IGNORANT people that have a problem with the idea of a GLBT storyline on their favorite soap. C'mon, get real! I strongly suspect that a VERY large percentage of YOUR favorite "soap hunks" are GAY men! Yes, indeed.

I have admired Clementine for a while now- I first remember seeing her on her Mom's Liftetime "Intimate Portrait" interview. Clem is beautiful and I believe that she is quite talented. I do feel that she may come off as "cold," as she often appears quite serious on screen. However, I feel that Clementine has tremendous growth potential. In fact, there isn't a better venue for an actor to perfect their craft than on a daytime serial. Many long-time fans of the character of "Mac" aren't even giving Clementine a fair chance to settle into the role and make it her own! I applaud Clementine for being open and honest about her sexuality, especially since there are so many GLBT actors on daytime TV that would NEVER "come out." I say, give Clem a chance and I feel that we may all be pleasantly surprised! I am excited to see what she will bring to the role. I look forward to seeing a more mature, more beautiful "Mac."

What- no mention that she was married to a man for 4 years. Why did she get married then? I think she is a HORRIBLE Mac! I thought she was 42 years-old. I was shocked that she is only 29. She looks way too old for that role and has zero charisma and zero chemistry with "Billy." I only like the first Mac who left the show to be a doctor. She is the 4th Mac. Recast 2 and 3 were terrible also. Y&R should drop the boring character. As to Clementine, if her mom wasn't Cybill Shepard, then there is NO WAY she would have gotten the Y&R role. I didn't see her on "the L word." No offense to her, but she's just BAD on Y&R.

Clementine Ford is a major disappointment in the role of Mac. She looks much too old for the part and often looks like "tragedy's child". Hope she is replaced soon with a more proper casting for the role. Also, conversely, Colleen is much too young looking for her role and appears very out of character. With the exception of these two the casting has been great. Hope these comments will be taken under consideration.
