Trevor Wayne's Pin Up Show

Inked, out, and "alternative," model Trevor Wayne strips down and talks to Advocate.com about challenging gay stereotypes -- and offers up a dozen images from his upcoming mini-mag Pin-Up Show and his collaboration with Clive Barker.

If you don’t immediately recognize Trevor Wayne’s face, you might recall catching a glimpse of one of the head-to-toe tattoos that have helped to earn the alternative pop model roles on ER, Mad TV, and Living With Fran in addition to landing him modeling gigs alongside Margaret Cho, Nip/Tuck’s Willam Belli,  Project Runway’s Kit Pistol, Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Tom Lenk, and singer Cazwell.

This month Wayne -- a gay man who has also modeled in the books Down the Rabbit Hole by Justin Monroe, Shooting Male by Eric Schwabel, and the upcoming Imagining Man by Clive Barker – celebrates the best of his edgy nude modeling work with the release of a controversial photo mini-magazine titled Pin-Up Show.

Featuring a selection of provocative work by a veritable who’s who of photographers including Barker, Austin Young, Thai Tai, Kaeden Stone, and Van Darkholme, the self-published Pin-Up Show presents Wayne’s oeuvre in the context of an underground art zine and promises to extend the actor-model-artist’s tattooed legend even further.

With the release of Pin-Up Show, an appearance in the upcoming Web series Svengali starring punk rock legend Tim Armstrong, and more signature works of visual pop art in progress, Trevor Wayne is clearly angling to show the world that he can be a pinup and so much more.

Not bad for a kid who grew up on a blueberry farm in Michigan and never thought of himself as photogenic before he got his big break.

Check out our interview with Trevor -- and a dozen exclusive photos from his upcoming book.

Advocate.com: So Trevor how did you go from a farm in Michigan to art school in Chicago to modeling? Was it something you pursued, or was it something that pursued you?
Trevor Wayne: I got into the idea of acting when I was living in NYC. I’d be walking down the street and often get pulled into small productions. I grew to love it, and thought I’d move to L.A., where it’s warmer, and give it a shot. I never thought I’d be modeling. I still feel that's the wrong word sometimes. I didn't even believe I was photogenic.

I got my first set of head shots done and they turned out great. Then other photographers had interest in me, so I began shooting a lot. I started putting more effort into that for a while, recognizing photography as a new art form I hadn't had a hand in yet.

What is with all the people thinking the tats and hair are all for attention? Before jumping to that conclusion, Cinderfella, think about how much time you put in front of the mirror. All the product you have, time spent getting your hair did, nails done. Perhaps instead of trying to cover up who he is, he is just putting it all out there for the world to see. Funny thing about it, he puts the real him out on the line and the ones that primp, press, suck in, and buy their way to others affection cry out against him. Don't be a judgmental turd. He has a story to tell, listen to it. As Gay Men and Women, we face enough misconceptions, hate, and ignorance in our day to day lives. It is about time our "community" started welcoming all brothers and sisters. If you don't like it, sweet, you have your own opinion, don't hate on something that is new to you. So many of you sound like Evangelical Congregations speaking against Equality.

I haven't noticed Mr. Wayne before, I just came to know him today due to a work he has done for a gay nerd/geek website. Being such a good looking guy I had to take a look at his website and I got blown away by the amazing photos I found there! Good looking, tattooed and gay, could he be more perfect? Just kidding. Mr. Wayne now got a new Brazilian fan.

Wow, the negative comments on here are clearly from people with extremely delicate self images... The jealousy that someone who is attractive and "alternative" to their own self expression is obvious. These people are clearly afraid of being left behind in their codified homogenized gay image. I can also read the jealousy evident in those who are just not attractive and wish they could be at least average looking and hate that Trevor is more than attractive and has chosen not to be average looking. Keep bitching guys, it says so much about who you are.

Ok I will admit....this is the first time I have ever heard of Mr Wayne, but I have to say I am a new fan. I like his attitude, and more importantly I think he is BEYOND sexy. The tats, the chops, the scrawny muscle..... Trevor doesnt need to be naked to be sexy. He is perfect and if I had the opportunity I would definately date him. Id even be happy to take him home to meet mom.

Wow, what a bunch of ridiculous comments. So much judgment here, the thing most gay men whine that the world heaps upon THEM. And why exactly would Trevor have to be a role model for anyone? He, like any of us, should be living his life for himself, not doing any harm to anyone but certainly not owing his work and his life to the "public." I know Trevor. Not overly well but enough to hug and say hello and talk a bit when we bump into each other. He is very down to earth, sweet and funny, and at times even shy I'd say. His work and his art, like most modeling, is him projecting an image and he does it very beautifully as these pictures demonstrate. There is much more to the story, as there always is. In a rush to make assumptions and judge a book by its "cover," so many here are getting it all wrong. And as if often the case, we in our "community" are our own worst enemies. Why am I not surprised?

It's nice he's stayed away from the nude/porn thing to date, it'll probably help keep him a little more humble. But I can't shake the feeling that on this particular dude his tattoos/shaved head/facial hair thing is mostly a get-laid strategy rather than any real sense of style. Guys that go to such extremes (straight or gay) usually have some gaping MENTAL problem, such as anger, or paralyzing insecurity, etc. I'm sure he has notebooks full of phone numbers to orgies and 'pool' parties, and hook-ups. Good for him; hopefully his bedroom prowess is as good everyone hopes it is
