Pepsi Targeted for AFA Boycott

The American Family Association has identified yet another target in its waging of the culture war -- PepsiCo. The right-wing organization has asked members to boycott PepsiCo after the company donated a combined $1 million to the Human Rights Campaign and Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.

The AFA says it sent two letters to PepsiCo after the donations were made public in October.

"We were indeed surprised by PepsiCo's support of the homosexual group," the AFA's Donald E. Wildmon wrote in October about the $500,000 donation to PFLAG. "It would appear to us that PepsiCo would not involve itself in a political and culture war, especially supporting an organization seeking to redefine marriage and family."

The letter went on to ask PepsiCo chair Indra K. Nooyi to "remain neutral in this culture war, neither supporting nor opposing the homosexual agenda."

PepsiCo responded in November that the donation made to PFLAG focuses on designing supportive workplace environments. "The initiative seeks to promote further understanding and equality in the places where people spend much of their time at work," PepsiCo spokesman Paul Boykas wrote in a letter the AFA deemed "condescending."

"Among the values promoted by the PepsiCo Foundation is ensuring a work environment that is respectful where associates are valued for their contributions," the letter went on to say. "I hope this clarifies this grant by the PepsiCo Foundation."

AFA wrote in a letter to its members that PepsiCo "refuses to give money to any pro-family organization that opposes the homosexual agenda."

Further adding fuel to the fire, the AFA adds that "most every homosexual organization we know of is overwhelmingly pro-abortion." (Michelle Garcia, Advocate.com)

Normally I buy whichever cola product is on sale, Pepsi or Coke. However, from this point forward I, and my partner of 30 years, will buy Pepsi products, whether they're on sale or not. I encourage all true Americans to contact Pepsi and let them know that they have our support for standing up to radical right-wing extremists. Buy Pepsi!

I've been boycotting Pepsi and its products (Frito-Lay, Gatoraide, etc.) for some time now. Their poor rebranding execution of Pepsi and Sobee as well as the recent misguided decision to acquire their bottling companies will likely do more damage than a boycott, however.

Religion is all about love, not condemnation or hate. If you start hating people who have not done anything to you, then I'd ask you to question your religion. If all homos are going to hell, I bet given the choice, all homos wouldn't want to be in heaven anyway!! Good on ya Pepsi!

what is wrong with people? Who says that gay men and women can and can not do the things they do? Are they armerican? Of course they are.... but so are the indinas that were massacared for not converting to the ways of the white man. When will all of this end? Im fairly sure that gay couples can raise kids... why would kids get confused? Single parents raise kids all the time. Are we going to start banning single parents? We all need to remember that the human race is not perfect and that we judge everything. We also need to remember that this country was founded on a group of men and women that did not want to conform to the ways of the church of england..... yet look at what happened once again to the native american indians. Why do these groups think that they are the right ones? Who is anyone to say that anything is right?

Just as PepsiCo has the constitutional right to support whomever they choose, I have the constitutional right to support, or not support, whomever I choose. This is why I now choose not to buy Pepsi products. It has nothing to do with hatred; it has everything to do with my convictions and beliefs. One superb benefit of no longer drinking Diet Pepsi (or any other sodas, for that matter) is that I feel a WHOLE lot better and healthier than I have in years (I've even lost weight)! I highly recommend cutting out carbonated and/or sugary drinks!!
