Pope Says Condoms Make AIDS Worse

Pope Benedict XVI has declared that condom use, far from slowing the spread of HIV, actually makes the pandemic worse.

"You can't resolve [AIDS] with the distribution of condoms," the pope told reporters on Tuesday aboard a plane headed to Africa, a continent ravaged by AIDS. "On the contrary, it increases the problem."

According to TheNew York Times , he had never before addressed condom use. His predecessor, Pope John Paul II, often proclaimed abstinence, not condoms, would prevent the spread of AIDS. The Roman Catholic Church rejects the use of condoms based on its teachings forbidding artificial contraception.

The Obama administration has taken steps to refocus energy on the fight against HIV in the United States, but a spokesperson declined to comment on the pope's remarks when reached by The Advocate .

Who would ever believe that AIDS was made (started) in a Vatican Hospital? But when you read articles like this, you sometimes just have got to wonder. As for that old chestneut, "Catholic Bashing", unfortuntale, that comes with the terriitory of dishing it out, but can't take criticiism. Remember, this is the same Church Authority that forbade Copernicus to look into his telescopes, condemened Galileo, slaughtered whole civilizations unless they become Catholic, forced Jews to become Catholic or die. And today forbides sex unless it is procreative, yet allows those who hide pedophiles to give and receive communion. What moral authority do they think they have? There's a special place in Hell for guys like the Rat.

Pope Pompous is an idiot of the highest order. People are going to have sex and that is not a bad thing. However, with communicable sexually acquired diseases out there - education and prevention are key. Condom use is PROVEN to reduce the spread of HIV. Implying that sex should only be within the context of a heterosexual marriage is absurd as it conveniently eliminates homosexual sex in the process - consistent with this cult's ignorant belief systemen and agenda. Condom use does not provoke people to have more sex - this is absurd. If people want to have sex, they are going to have it. At least with the proper use of condoms, the spread of HIV is reduced. Heir Ratzinger is a total freaking moron, as are some of the posters to this topic. "Catholic-bashing"? Coming from a disturbed institution that has been bashing GLBT people for thousands of years - that just merely laughable. The man and his cult are tragic.

    Comment:

The Pope's comments on condoms are contradicted by numerous medical studies that have proven that proper use of condoms greatly reduces the spread of HIV/AIDS among sexually active people. This includes the wives and partners of HIV positive men around the world who continue to have sexual relations with their husbands or partners, whether by choice or by coercion. DignityUSA has long called on the Vatican to acknowledge the importance of educating people on the proper use of condoms, and to support making them widely available, as a way of saving lives of vulnerable people around the world. Once again, the Pope's stubborn clinging to outdated stances endangers people across the globe.

The Pope's public stance on condom use in the context of AIDS is not only morally reprehensible, it is criminal as it puts people's health and lives at risk by promoting medically incorrect information. Legal action pèst be taken against Joseph Alois Ratzinger for propagating erroneous information that impacts public health in many nations. He should be prosecuted by an international tribunal for endangering entire nations' health.

He should be up in the International Courts soon for abusing human rights by advocating not using condoms in a continent populated by the uneducated. Much like Thabo Mbeki and SA's health minister Dr Beetroot.
