Teen Confesses to Murder of Gay Journalist

Police in New York City say that a teenager confessed on Wednesday morning to the brutal slaying of a gay radio journalist. The murder of George Weber has captured public attention because of its horrifying and intimate details.

The New York Post reported that John Katehis, 16, of Queens was taken into custody in upstate New York and brought to the police precinct in Brooklyn, where he confessed to the crime. Weber, a former employee of ABC News, was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment on Sunday morning, after being stabbed as many as 50 times.

Weber, 47, apparently met Katehis via Craigslist, and after a series of e-mail exchanges offered him $60 for a sexual encounter on Friday night that included rough behavior. The vodka- and cocaine-fueled tryst turned violent, with Katehis telling police that Weber pulled a knife on him. The teenager in turn grabbed the weapon and stabbed Weber to death.

Weber's legs were bound with duct tape. Investigators believe he introduced the knife in order to free himself, not to attack Katehis.

First of all, there is no evidence that Mr. Webber had relationships with underage men (at least men who were honest about their age). You may not approve of Mr. Webber's preferences but it's pointless to argue about preferences because people prefer what they prefer. I use to be a male prostitute and would also lie about my age before I turned 18. I understand what it's like for these men to long for companionship or for sex without any strings attached. That's ok; not everybody has the time or energy to support a relationship--not everyone's a penguin searching for their perfect mate. I also had clients who requested rough sex and incorporated drugs into the mix. I put myself in those situations and had every opportunity to say no; there was no gun to my head. I would never blame men who engaged in activities that I willingly agreed to but were not my preferences. The defendant and those like him should take responsibility for their choices and not blame others.

Nathan: You are 100% CORRECT in your assessment. Though Mr. Webber may indeed have been a good and kind person, he WAS, IN FACT, trolling the internet for TEENAGE BOYS, PLYING THEM WITH DRUGS and BRIBING/MANIPULATING them WITH MONEY. If he were straight these posters would not be defending him. If he wasn't white, these posters would not be defending him.

Careful with that sword of judgment, Nathan...it has edges that cut both ways! Until you know ALL the facts, don't be so quick to turn the victim into a predator. And I say that without making excuses for real pedophiles one little bit. Because even under those circumstances, does anyone deserve to be stabbed fifty times? I would think NOT!!! Plus, your high-mindedness about the situation changes not one thing that others would think when wishing similar things on you (and MUCH worse) just for being gay. Don't believe me? Go ask Fred Phelps and his lovely daughter, Shirley.

Nathan,, you hve no right to call him a pervert. the kid mislead him and said he was much older than his stated age, and he does look older and im sure its not the first time he hooked up for money. so dont justify his actions. you are sending out the wrong message by saying that its ok to kill someone. shame on you

I think it was terrible all the same,,, but your use of the work pediphile is misplaced,,,pediphiles go for only a particular age (usually very young). He scored with a hot teen who was open for sex.. and in NYC it is all to common for teens to be hustling. And, if I am not mistaken the age of sexual concent is a younger than most states.. At least in a court of law... the kid will get off,, because he is a teen.. if he is old enough to seek sex he should be old enough to hang,, he wont, but if he is convicted (and it my greatest hope that he is) he will be a real treat in the joint.. perhaps a taste of his own medicine, he can use all the excuses he wants there and it wont help E. Is it me, am I the only gay person reading this who thinks Webber is a pervert who, if alive, should be jailed? He trolled for sex online, immoral if not illegal, tried to hook up with a 16 yr old, fed drugs and booze to a minor, etc... I am sitting here thinking that more pedophiles and perverts like this need to be taken care of my society. It isn't reasonable to take on the exploited and not think about that exploiter!

Many gay men have sex with younger men. That will never change (read up on the Greeks and Romans.) I often wonder if those who object to cross generational sex are simply young toads trying to eliminate competition. This kid apparently was lying about his age on Graig's list and claiming to be over 18. What is really surprising is that anyone, of any age, would take a chance on being alone with someone who looks so psychotic.
