Oregon Paper Urges Adams to Resign

The Oregonian editorial board is calling for the immediate resignation of Portland, Ore., mayor Sam Adams.

Oregon's attorney general is currently investigating Adams's 2005 sexual relationship with Beau Breedlove. Last week, The Oregonian reported that Adams called Breedlove 33 times before he turned 18 .

While both men acknowledge that they had contact while Breedlove was still a minor, and that they later had a sexual relationship, they insist that their physical relationship did not begin before Breedlove reached age 18, Oregon's age of consent.

Sunday's editorial concludes that even though the investigation continues, the Breedlove matter "undercuts [Adams's] capacity to be effective for the city."

The editorial goes on to state that Adams lied to voters about Breedlove during the 2008 mayor's election: "He was done for the moment he decided to win the last election with a lie."

The Advocate magazine really is doing its homework to insure it meets the needs of it republican reader base by the way it leads with this story, as yet there is no information about the content of the phone calls, the timeframe for all 33 calls, were they in one day, were they a week, a month etc, the Advocate is advancing the idea that there is something wrong here without any facts being given to support the nasty side here, is it at all possible that nothing sexual happened between these two, we have FOX NEWS to push this type of homophobic shite, what the fook is the Advocate doing, shame on your editor,

Elections and Erections. Maybe if the American people would stop mixing up the two, we might get a better caliber of politician. Since the then 17 year old in question is not alleging rape, why is any money or effort being spent on getting the details of who put their penis where and when?

His vehement denial of the situation is what has so many people upset.Perhaps had he come clean before the election,he could have come through it all. Adding to his problems, Sam was at fault in a three car accident a few days ago, causing pretty heavy damage to the other cars. As of yesterday, he still hasnt been ticketed, which has caused further outrage.Almost every comment I've read on local sites is that you or I would have been ticketed for what he did, and the police are showing him favoritism...and they have completely had it with the Mayor and his embarrassing shenanigans. I believe any chance of him avoiding a recall vote has been ruined by this new drama.

I don't think America has become such an enlightened place that a politician can weather a gay sex scandal.

I really don't think it's possible to prove that Adams and Breedlove were in a sexual relationship before Breedlove turned 18, and I doubt that it really matters that much to most Oregonians. This would not even have turned up if Adams had had the affair with a young woman. America needs to lower its age of consent to 16 to reduce the number of ridiculous statutory rape charges. I'm tired of hearing that "so-and-so took advantage of her!" when the relationship was entirely consensual.

Once a liar is always a liar. As a public figure he should give a good example for people he leads. He teachs his people to do whatever it takes to achieve the goal, even by breaking the law and lying. For the sake of position and fame??? Embarassment for gay community. Nobody's above the law !!! This is America, not uncivilized third countries.

I live in Portland, OR and I think that the mayor has his hands tied as far as being able to accomplish anything, and that means to me that he should step down. Even though we expect politicians to lie it doesn't excuse it. The fact that he went on and on a few years ago about how people were lying about him and trying to muddy him up while he knew full well that they were telling the truth is unforgivable. Period. I do not want that smug, pompous, self important windbag representing the city I live in.

Breedlove is a bit trashy, overplucked, and seems to have a distorted idea of his appeal. I think the real lack of judgment on Sam's part was not seeing Beau for what he was right off the bat.

What is the age of consent in Oregon for girls, is it 18 as well or younger. What a bunch of sanctimonious hypocrits this newspaper has as an editorial board. The only people in Oregon who give one shit about this is the Oregonian. If every politician who told a lie during an election then we would have no politicians. Is this editorial board so pristine that they can sit and judge the actions of another, it is not like he committed a murder or embezzled billions, no he made some calls to a young man, it really does take to make an action so why are they not going after Breedlove, he was not a victim and he likely wasn't a virgin either.
