What makes this story even more scary is that potential bashers will see that they can virtually KILL any of us and get a light sentence. Which is why I see that hate crimes need to come to the forefront of the presidency/congress. It also boggles my mind that people and this site seem to bitch more about DADT over hate crimes legislation. DADT can wait; we have our own war that we need to win in this country first!

That is horrible! What kind of justice is that when you kill someone and get less than a year in prison? Sean was only 20 years old and deserved the right to live his life the way he wanted. EVERYBODY deserves the right to live and the justice system definitely failed Sean and I think that there had to be plenty of homophobic people working to get such a ridiculous sentence for that murderer.

I've met the mother of Sean while I was attending college in South Carolina. He was killed outside a club in Greenville. He should be in jail for the rest of his life, but it's SC so nothing surprises me. His family deserves justice, and they've been working hard to get it. She campaigns around the state.

One year in jail after being convicted in a killing. I'm not going to make any judgements year until I learn more about this case. Sometimes the media gives one third of a story when there's more and they leave out a lot of information.
