Last week's landmark
ruling by India's Delhi high court that struck down a
148-year-old law banning gay sex has been challenged in court
-- by an astrologer, reports the
BBC
.
Suresh Kaushal filed a
petition in the country's supreme court asking for the British
colonial-era law to be reinstated. Kaushal said that the
ancient scriptures and values of India did not permit
homosexuality, and argued that the recent court judgment would
contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Chief Justice K.
Balakrishnan asked the government and campaign groups to
respond to the petition.
