Carol Channing Wants Depp to Play Her

Johnny Depp says his dream role is to play Broadway legend Carol Channing in a biopic -- and now Channing has offered her blessing.

"It is not a new concept to me," Channing said. "Not at all. Men have been imitating me for as long as I can remember. In fact, most of the impersonations I have seen have had a five-o'clock shadow. I imagine, when or if Johnny should portray me, he will succeed. Because a true artist, such as himself, is one who loves his or her creation and therefore represents their honest view of that which they are creating. I think he is a gifted performer and I would be very proud, as well as interested in seeing what his vision of me would be. Johnny is someone I would very much like to help me and my foundation (ChanningARTS.org) to bring the arts back into the public school system in America."

Depp said in an interview last week that he would love to play Channing. "I love her, I really do, she's amazing. With all the digital technology these days, I could probably pull it off!"

Oh this could be so great! Depp can do anything, and Channing is not only a gay icon, but one of the few women to have made a name for herself in comedy, paving the way for modern funny woman in the entertainment industry. Rea, as for the anti-gay comments attributed to her, Ms Channing denied a few years ago that she said the things that were published, claiming that they were distorted by the reporter. I choose to believe her, but the article in which she denies making the anti-gay comments is online, just google IN Los Angeles Magazine and Channing's name, and you'll find it, and you can decide for yourself. Cheers!

I have always enjoyed Johnny Depp's work. On a side note, I am uncomfortable with Carol Channing since I read her comments about not supporting gay marriage - as I recall it was something to the effect of gay marriage not being OK per the bible. Sort of like when Bette Middler said she was unsure if gays should be allowed to get married; she needed to think about it. Does anyone out there have newer info about how either of these ladies stand on gay marriage? I would appreciate reading it. My info is rather dated. And Yes, everyone is free to have an opinion, but I am also free to not give my money to people who do not think I deserve equal treatment. So, what do people know about Carol/Bette/gay marriage?

Okay PJR, you crossed the line. You can spew all the homo-hate you want, typing furiously, fingers stained orange with Cheetos. You can respond with thought provoking idiocy to every article posted on this site, even the advertisements, but once you start dissing Johnny Depp, you've gone too far. You've reached the pinnacle of insults. I can't let you get away with such lies and slander. He's simply the best actor out there. --- Alice in Wonderland will be awesome!

Johnny Depp is a great chameleon of an artist. He makes whatever character he plays believable. He is a fine actor and I have always enjoyed his performances.

Oh yes, that would be fantastic and the fact he wants to do it would make it magical. P.S. PJR Get help. Please. I understand you are lonely and have been inappropriately educated but your energies could be directed in a positive way if you only tried. Have you tried community college? You can take classes online from a variety of schools and the state you live in may pay for it. History and sociology are classes you should take as soon as you can.

Johnny Depp talent peaked at Edward Scissorhands, really due to his costars. From then on it's been a lucrative downslide in his career per quality output! There's no question this has something to do with his poor decision to remove "Winona Forever" from his arm! It has affected him and his acting passion greatly even as he refuses to admit it!
