Bye, Short-shorts: Reno 911! Canceled

Freeze! Fun's over. After six seasons on cable's Comedy Central, Reno 911! has been canceled. With a modern-media announcement on Friday, co-creator and star Thomas Lennon tweeted: " Reno 911! was canceled at 1:30 p.m. today. Won't be wearing the shorts again."

Fellow creator Ben Garant gave a lengthier, uncensored reaction to Knoxville.com.

"To tell the truth, getting dumped by Comedy Central feels kinda like a wake-up call," Garant said. "If they hadn't fired us, we honestly never woulda quit. I love doing Reno. It was fun."

Their relationship with the network, however, was less than desirable. "I feel like I was in an abusive relationship that we were never gonna walk out of, and then I got dumped. It feels [bad]," he lamented. "The last season was the best by far, and the funnest -- and it was gonna keep getting better. But honestly -- I'm glad we're forced to move on."

Faithful fans may have a reunion to look forward to soon. Garant said he and the cast would like to work together again, just on another network.

"We had a great run on Reno -- 87 episodes and a movie," he said. "Not too shabby. I do feel bad for the fans. They feel gypped. They're expressing that already, but -- our next show is gonna be better, and it's gonna have a lot of the same faces from Reno. The Reno family will live. In the TV."

The final season of the show aired in July. The Cops parody featured the talents of Kerri Kenney-Silver, Cedric Yarbrough, Niecy Nash, Robert Ben Garant, and Lennon.

Damn! I loved this show, and it was one of the funniest around. I will miss it dearly (as well as queerly). Here's hoping they reform into something else as some of them did in "The State" years.

I can't believe I won't see Tom Lennon in the short shorts anymore. Here's hoping we see "Terry" again because Nick Swardson is so funny!

Last season was terrible, it deserved to be cancelled based on that alone.
