New Gay Tees at American Apparel

AMERICAN APPAREL GAY T SHIRT X390 (COURTESY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Following the success of their "Legalize Gay" T-shirt, American Apparel has released two more shirts with pro-gay messages.

They're part of the company’s Library Series, a collection of four poly-cotton blend T-shirts feature black-and-white newspaper photographs from the 1980s. One shirt has an image of two men joined together marching in the 1984 West Hollywood gay pride parade.

The second, titled Anti-Homophobe Rally, shows protesters demonstrating outside of an Anaheim hotel in 1989. One man holds a sign reading “Love cures homophobia.”

American Apparel has become more vocal about their support for LGBT issues. The clothing retailer released their "Legalize Gay" T-shirt in November 2008, following the passage of Proposition 8, and later partnered with the Human Rights Campaign to release a special edition of the tee.

According to the company’s website, “With many of our employees and customers identifying as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered, we are a company that is vocal about our support for the protection of gay rights.”

The new T-shirts are available on American Apparel's website and in stores for $30.

Franz, I think it goes without saying, that you missed the point entirely regarding the phrase, "Legalize Gay". It means everything gay, not necessarily human beings, but everything in our so called existence. And by the way, the lives of gay people are not fully legal, if the "things" that make up our lives are not legal. If we are not fully EQUAL, then we are not fully LEGAL either. "Legalize Gay" sums it all up for me ... (marriage, immigration, etc.) It shifts the burden from the oppressed to the oppressors. Peyton Conway March said, "There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life -- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind -- are always attained by giving them to someone else." And Lillian Hellman said, "For every man who lives without freedom, the rest of us must face the guilt."

I might get one of the new shirts. I don't know, I didn't like the "Legalize Gay" t-shirts, I found something not quite desirable about the phrase though I'm sure American Apparel did it in good spirits. Being gay doesn't need to be "legalized" because who people are, are not in the hands of the states to decide. You legalize marijuana, not people. I guess it is just sort of like saying gay people crave and need acceptance. NO WE DON't, what we need is a government to have the balls and enforce non-discrimination, who gives a fuck who "accepts" what. But in any case I do support American Apparel sometimes though it is too damn expensive and is basically a clothing like for skinny bitches. As a skinny bitch some of those things can't even fit on me....and that is shameful. American Apparel should come out with some pork chop shirts.
