Dobson Departs Focus on the Family

Focus on the Family founder James C. Dobson will end his 32-year tenure as the voice of the conservative Christian ministry at the end of February, the Colorado-based nonprofit announced on Friday.

Focus on the Family founder James C. Dobson will end his 32-year tenure as the voice of the conservative Christian ministry at the end of February, the Colorado-based nonprofit announced on Friday.

Dobson has been gradually cutting ties with the organization. In 2003, Dobson stepped down as Focus on the Family’s president, and last February Dobson left the ministry’s board of directors.

Over the years, Dobson has become a key advocate for the religious right, promoting fierce opposition to abortion, gay rights, pornography, and President Barack Obama's candidacy.

According to Jim Daly, the current president and CEO of Focus on the Family, the decision was mutual between Dobson and the ministry's board of directors. Despite leaving the organization, Dobson will not go quietly into retirement. Dobson has agreed to return to Focus as a guest, said Gary Schneeberger, a ministry spokesman, reports The Denver Post.

A press release from the organization does not name a replacement for Dobson.

First we lost D. James Kennedy, then Jerry Falwell, now James Dobson. The only founder of the Moral Majority that's left is Pat Robertson - and he's not looking too healthy these days either. Maybe Ted Haggard can come back and save the movement. After all, he was cured of his homosexuality wasn't he?

I know, I know, I should not type and think out loud at the same time... But then who’s going to greet with open Arms the Anti-Christ if Dobson leaves? … And “Down at Stonewall” is Jallen Rix’s. If only the Advocate would let us have a few more chatters.

But then is going to great with open arms the Anti-Christ? After all he's all but nixed the second commandment thing of Christ (that pesky thing about loving your neighbor as J.C. did you or was that about as you love yourself- James couldn’t bother to remember, Oh well…) in exchange for posting the Ten Commandments on all the court's walls. Wasn’t the Pharisees who asked J.C who his pesky neighbor was- so he knew who it was OK to discriminate against? Then there was Dobson’s “Bring your son into the showers with you day”- so he knows what a real man looks like. Yes, real heterosexual traumatizing Christian Values there. Who need priest when you have James Dobson right? And the last time I check, J.C was “Down At StoneWall”, and He didn’t seem the least upset. Love can Grow where you least expect. What would churches think that the Christ has come to this watering hole? He said There’s too much H8 between the sacred and the queer

Oh, no! First we lost Jerry Falwell and now James Dobson! Dear oh dear, who is going to keep us Gays in line now? Guess we will just have to go out and get married like normal folks do, adopt children like normal folks do, serve our country like normal folks do! Oh, the travesty of it all. Toodles then, James, you be a good ole boy now and no butt grabbing on your way out!

On less hate spewing bigot airing his "righteousness". It is a sad thing that those who demand religious freedom use it to curtail the freedom of others. They should know better and look back in history, when they themselves were unable to enjoy then freedom because of the "righteousness" of others.
