Dems Running Scared From DADT?

DEMOCRAT NERVOUS DONKEY ELEPHANT REPUBLICAN X390 (FAIR USE) | ADVOCATE.COM

House and Senate Democrats are feeling vulnerable after Tuesday’s poor showing at the polls -- and according to a report on TheHill.com, many want their leaders to skip the party’s controversial legislative agenda so they can focus on saving their seats in Congress.

Among the issues they consider risky? Immigration reform, climate change, and “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

With Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, pushing hard for the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” it might be tough to avoid addressing the ban for another year. Gay activists have put pressure on Obama to address the ban sooner than later, though several Democrats say they don’t want to see the issue on next year’s agenda.

In light of Tuesday’s big loss in Maine, gay activists are now putting the pressure on groups like the Human Rights Campaign to demand results from the Obama administration. David Mixner blogged Wednesday that HRC donors should withhold further contributions until the group steps up its game.

If we vote the party of NO and let the Dems know we voted that way, wouldnt that send a better message than just not voting at all? With the repubs(which is stalling everything anyway) we know what we have. If we vote the NO party we will send a message to the Dems that will be mind blowing to them. If the Dems wont act on our behalf lets tell them NO!

Republicans are stalling every bill come to senate & house, making the changes go very slow. This tactics is working and making Democrats look like a bunch of clowns. People are impatient of waiting and they will swing their votes back to Republicans. Moreover, our president is not decisive enough to lead this country. He is too much afraid of making changes he promised during the campaign. He does not aware that people voted for him to see changes. If the pace of changes is going to be slow like this, for sure Democrats will lose votes in 2010 and Obama will get no second term in 2012.

No more Mr. Nice Gay. I hope Obama's GLBT liaison is reading these messages and relaying them to Obama. We are sick and tired of being sick and tired of Democrats lying to us, taking us (our money and votes) for granted, and igoring us and our rights. We need to stop wasting time and money on losing popular vote battles. I am tired of all of the politicians who want our votes and money but who end up doing nothing for us. Democrats may not have their majorities in Congress after the 2010 elections, so these issues must be handled NOW. The "fierce urgency of now" requires action by a "fierce advocate." We need to FLOOD the court system with lawsuits - local, state, and federal. Go to http://www.facebook.com/home.php?filter=app_2915120374#/group.php?gid=173640560745&ref=ts and join No Change, No Money to send a message that our hard earned and unequally taxed dollars will not be taken for granted any more. The GAY-TM is closed.

I am very much thankful when I decided to migrate to Canada where same-sex marriage is recognized by the government. No headaches at all, unlike the United States of America. Still divided over the issue. Its about time to leave your country for good, don't waste so much money on it. Your President Obama would remained indifferent over your causes. It would remained unattractive for gay tourists and even potential immigrants. Racial and gender discrimination would remained in the long run.

part two: Get a name and direct contact number from someone in your congressman's office. Contact them constantly. phone, email, snail mail. Bring in all correspondence that has not been responded to. Ask then why no one is responding. Tell them you'll be happy to sit and wait for a response. No one will talk to you? Get a name, very politely, and with a smile, tell them most regretfully that you're exhausting your resources, so perhaps you may just need to enlist the help of the news agencies, and maybe some community action groups, since they would have more resources to help you. Swamp the switchboards, the mail rooms, the email servers. Not rudely, but politely, with a smile on your face. We elected Obama, but we didn't select a king. He's one man, head of one branch of government. Those of us who sent him to Washington have an obligation to remind congress just who they work for. Flood them with niceness until they are overwhelmed. And keep it up until they listen. .

its our fault two. We need to work with our families and friends. Email, snail mail, and call our congress members. Demand action, including cosponsorship of our bills. Remind them who they work for. No response, or one you don't like? Copy your emails, and your snail mails, and logs of your calls. have your friends to the same. Take them to the offices of your leaders. Plop them on the desk, and ask why you've not gotten a response. Take names of you talk to, and let them know you'll be forwarding all this to the news media Be polite, and smile! Remind them you have limited resources, so you're going to hand off your issue to someone with more resources to help you out. Get names of you talk with. Ask for direct phone numbers. Ask for a direct meeting with you representative. Won't get one? Clarify that you are being denied a face face meeting with your elected representative. Have your friends and family do it too. Be a very polite pain in the ass. Repeatedly.

It's sad that the officals that we elected worry more about thier asses than our rights. The endless round of 'we'll get to that next cycle' has dissapointed me no end. Why should I vote for them next time if they don't produce this time? They should wake up and realize that I WILL NOT VOTE FOR THEM A SECOND TIME. (That goes for the President as well.) There is no 'next cycle' for me.

the Dems always pull away from the issues they promised thinking they are gonna lose the support of the people, but they've failed to realize that the reason why they are voted into office is because of their beliefs and if you fail to delieve then people aren't gonna vote for them. So that's why they lost, no tbecause of the hot topic issues. Hence the whole trying to distance themselves from the hot topic issues is gonna fuck them over more then sticking to the plan. Politics in Aemrica is getting more and more retarted

Here's what I don't understand...there is hardly any coverage on referendum 71 here in Washington. It will have ALL rights and responsibilities with heterosexual married couples, but won't be called marriage. We want equal protection under the law, who the fuck cares what they call it. But for all the straight "allies" who support civil unions but not marriage assuming that marriage has more rights than civil unions, tell your "friends" that that doesn't make them progressive or edgy. I just think it's ridiculous to be disenfranchised from rights over semantics if we can get legislation that is exactly the same as marriage minus the name "marriage." The Democrats are not running away from anything because they never supported gay rights anyway, they just hid their homophobia behind "I'm not Bush." Obama and the be running the other way come 2010. Democrats will start lifting up their skirts for votes then. By then I might not be in the mood to be bothered.

For those of you who think Civil Unions are good enough, here are a couple of reasons why they aren't. In the unlikely even that DOMA is ever repealed, married gay couples will at last be in a position to acrue the benefits of federal recognition. I'll almost guarantee that "civil unionized" couples won't be in line to receive those benefits. We will still be taxed as individuals, and our foreign-born partners will still be deported "back to where they came from". If you guys want to be second-class all your lives, that's fine by me. Don't get married. As for me, it's marriage or nothing.
