House Committee Vote on ENDA Postponed

ENDA UPDATE CAPITOL X390 (PHOPTOS.COM) | ADVOCATE.COM

A House Education and Labor Committee vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, at 10 a.m. has been postponed.

The ENDA markup will likely be delayed for two to three weeks, according to a Hill staffer, and should be rescheduled for sometime after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Yeah, that makes sense. The issue of an anti-discrimination bill for LGBT folks is such a new thing that committee members couldn't have been expected to have a ready-to-vote-on bill at this point and to be ready to make any decisions. Better to take some more time and mull it over for a few weeks. /sarcasm

separate sources concur that this is only a temporary delay as they complete behind the scenes work on some of the legal issues, hopefully it will be back for a markup hearing and vote just after thanksgiving, and then on to the House.

This news item is so terribly skim that it's practically uninformative. There's no mention on why it's being delayed and whether it will impact the schedule to be presented in front of the full Congress in early 2010. Is it because it's too close to the holidays? What? At least say something along the lines of, "the reasons for the delay are unknown at this time."

Oh, come on already! This is ridiculous, this should have absolutely no problem getting passed. I'm so sick of this bullshit. Civil disobedience, now.
