More Than 1,500 Mad About Adam Lambert

Kissing a man, leading another around by a leash, and shoving a third’s head into his crotch made Adam Lambert’s American Music Awards debut one to remember – but it also made more than a few people mad.

ABC says it has received more than 1,500 complaints about Lambert’s performance of his single “For Your Entertainment.” The network has categorized the response as “moderate.”

Lambert said going into the performance that he wanted to break down the double standard that female performers have to be sexually provocative but men are not.

Various bloggers and talk shows have weighed in on the performance. On The View, Elizabeth Hasselbeck said she felt the perfrmance was in bad taste while Barbara Walters defended Lambert and scolded ABC for refusing to let them re-air footage during daytime hours.

Later that night on The Joy Behar Show, actor Bradley Whitford criticized the media for its coverage of Lambert's performance, saying people were largely offended solely because the singer is gay.

I think what Adam did was great for shock value and for people to see men do kiss other men like it of not. The act he did on stage was all planed it's not like ABC did not know about it..People in the country better wake up !There are different types of people in the world and in are country.. I hope this is just the beginning of the beginning for same sex acts on TV( besides being on logo) if heterosexuals can do it an we have to watch it .So can we and if we can not I think that is called discrimination And as a community we need to do something about it. Thank you Adam !!

I thought it was HOT! Good for him! We have been watching Britney and every pop singer female do it to please straight guys for decades. Pardon me but f*** the stereotypes. Guess what? We ARE sexual creatures who also happen to be gay and like men...and thats OKAY!!! Rock on hot Adam :P

Hell must have frozen over because I agree with everything Elizabeth said. I'm gay, proud and a Lambert fan, but he should focus on singing instead of acting like an idiot.

I thought Lambert sounded like shit because he was too busy trying to shock and offend people. It's all so self-serving. He is also constantly playing right into the stereotype that gay people are nothing but sexual dogs. [Huge eye roll] Just sing the damn song and worry about shocking me once you've hit the high notes.

Okay so do people not understand that he has a choreographer that put together the entire routine? He was just an "actor" putting on an act while singing his song. I am not a fan of his, but I think this day and age something as miniscule as this is just ridiculous. And who cares about Elizabeth Hasselbeck and her comments, she is an oppressed staunch republican.

yeah of course the outrage is because Lambert is gay, because girls kissing other girls and wearing g-strings in their performances are alright for straight men, because public sexual objectification of women is acceptable. It is the same reason why I have to suffer through women's and boobs on television but an erect penis gets the x-rating. While the false moral outrage is just part entertainment and part politics, it's still tawdry to do orally simulated sex on stage..But as far as American Music Awards, let's face it, it's all tawdry. The real problem besides being tacky and obscene is because a few straight guys got hot and bothered and because it was two men. We should really stop acting like Quakers about it, but we should stop trying to act like it was art or something. It wasn't art when Madonna or Janet did it and it wasn't when Lambert over did it.

The hypocrisy is ridiculous, Adam didn't do anything that wouldn't have been perfectly acceptable had he been a girl. Shame on the censors! The only thing that offended me was Adam's voice - it's usually amazing, but I think he may have been over-ambitious with all the running around and not being able to catch his breath enough to sing properly.

Although I have no problem with Adam Lambert expressing himself musically, I don't think he did himself any favors with the sexual overkill in his performance. I think he was trying too hard to be the "in your face" (no pun intended) performer. He's very talented so I hope he hasn't ended his post American Idol fame before it's really had a chance to start. From what little I've read of his interviews he seems to be a bit full of himself and less aware of the fact it's the public that'll keep him famous. I don't think he should be anything but Adam but with some sense of his public.

The stunt he pulled is 100% about marketing the Adam Lambert brand. Any effect it has on our movement, for better or worse, will be both minimal and unintentional.

I still think that this is being made into a bigger deal than it's suppose to be. I'm pretty damn sure that him being gay, is why it's even being made into a big deal. Media loves scandals, and conservatives want everything their way. When society is taken out of the "norm", their comfort zone, we start to see people's true colors. Discrimination never dies, does it?
