FCC Pressure Keeps Lambert off ABC

Singer Adam Lambert has been barred from appearing on two programs this month, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, after a racy performance at the American Music Awards.

Writing on his Twitter page Wednesday night, Lambert said that ABC had canceled his appearances, but not to blame the network. "It's the FCC heat," he wrote.

A spokesperson from the Federal Communications Commission told Advocate.com that the agency were not commenting on the matter.

At the November 22 AMAs, Lambert gave a now-infamous performance, which was broadcast on ABC at the end of the night. The network immediately canceled his appearance on Good Morning America.

Meanwhile CBS took him on as a guest for The Early Show, but blurred out images of Lambert's act, where he simulated oral sex, kissed his keyboardist, and extended a profane gesture to the audience. They did not, however, blur subsequent images of Madonna kissing Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. However, CBS said that the decision to blur him was due to possible legal action.

I thought the regressive GOP was out of office and had no more influence on the FCC. Apparently I was wrong. Is this the change we voted for?

I won't be watching ABC. Adam Lambert has broken new ground for the gay community on a prime time show. He should be commended. The network is bowing to their homophobic base.

If anything, I would have thought that Jimmy Kimmel was too risque for Lambert, and not the other way round! Kissing and simulated sexual acts between straight people are on TV all day, every day...along with murders, wars, people starving to death. Avarice and gluttony are supposed to be sins, yet they are encouraged by every single advertisement on television...why don't the religinuts start complaining about that? Oh I forget...it's cause they're homophobes. That's what the whole controversy boils down to.

I think the whole furor over Adams performance has now got to the rediculous, the man has apologized and admitted he got carried away, but what harm was done, no genitalia were exposed. Lets see no one complains over JayZ grabbing his crotch surrounded by women dressed in hooker clothing, or Chris Brown doing it or Beyonce dressing like a slut even for red carpet appearances, but wait this all happens on MTV in a time slot wher 11 and 12 year olds are watching. Americans claim to be enlightened but you are all hypocrits and puritans, I live in Canada and in that time slot we have full frontal nudity (OZ, Queer as Folk) played on open network television. Wouldn't you like to see what we can watch on our pay tv, you would label it porn and all be tuning in. I have seen worse than Adams behaviour in the videos that your top performers put out and these are aimed at teens and preteens. Your FCC shout get their heads out of their anuses and look at the real world.

he didn't win because he is gay. the right wing gathered all their power to phone, phone, phone to make sure a gay man would not be the epitome of an american idol. they won. they usually do. as a 71 years young gay man, i have been through it all. i was beat up in new york, i served my country and willing to die for it, knowing there is so much hate against gays. of course, back then, i could not mention it, but was willing to die for my country. we all still have a long ways to go. adam's stunt was seen by many people. i, as a gay man, thought it was in bad taste. to push a man's head into his crotch goes a bit beyond what america is willing to accept. we are slowly getting there. not in my time, but the time will arrive when intelligent people realize that we were born this way and did not choose. but if i had to choose, kiss me man. adam, ease up a little. love to my gay bros and sisters. love, tom

This is the first time I agree with the FCC. This man, so called man, should be pixelated 24/7. Yet i don't understand why MADvocate will glorify garbage (maybe that's because garbage is their agenda). Why don't we embrace gay soldiers, firemen, police men, doctors, rescue workers, statesmen, these are the true heroes of our community. Where is their 15 minutes of glorification? Or do they need to shove peoples faces in their crotches and suck each others faces off...

I think this has dragged on long enough. Yeah the simulated oral sex move was inappropriate, it happened, but ABC and those that have a problem need to move on already.

This issue is clearly about bigotry towards homosexuals. I know for fact the anti-gay, right-wing, Evangelicals and their organizations have been bombarding the FCC with complaints which center solely around the issue of "gay sexuality" that Adam displayed. The whole thing is ridiculous, it was 11pm on the East coast and 10 pm Central when his segment aired, I have seen WORSE things at this time of the night on major network television!!! Maybe it is time for a boycott of ABC/Disney to show our disgust with their obviously prejudicial and homophobic policy towards Adam Lambert but not anyone else who engages in "sexually-oriented material" on the network. I mean come on! All they have to do is simply make him sign a contract before any appearances stating he will refrain from anything sexually suggestive if they fear FCC fines, end of story. But no, an all out BAN is blatant homophobia! Even Barbara Walters seems to agree from when it was discussed on The View!
