Male Hookers Have New Home in Vegas

NEVADA BROTHELS X390 (COURTESY) | ADVOCATE.COM

After a unanimous decision by the Nevada board of health, male prostitutes are now legally allowed to work in brothels. The state decided on Friday to change health codes so that male sex workers can be tested for infectious diseases, a stipulation for brothel workers in Nevada, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

Men were previously barred from sex work in brothels because the codes specified that prostitutes must undergo "cervical" testing for STDs. Brothel owner Bobbi Davis, from the Shady Lady Ranch, wanted to add men to her slate of prostitutes, requiring she file a request for the policy to be changed. Her business will offer services from men -- who can decide whether they want to take on male or female clients — starting in January.

The state board of health will now add urethral exams to the guidelines, allowing all prostitutes — male and female — to be tested for diseases.

George Flint, a lobbyist for the Nevada Brothel Owners Association, said he "reluctantly" agreed to the change because he couldn't oppose regulation for one gender and not the other. He underscored that he was worried about HIV transmission  between prostitutes and clients, though the industry has had a strong track record in preventing the virus's spread.

“We’ve worked hard for years to make the traditional brothel business in this state socially acceptable and something we can be proud of that most Nevadans accept,” Flint added. “We have some concerns that this can be diluted by what Ms. Bobbi Davis wants to try.”

I think its perfectly fine for ment to be able to work in brothels as well. Why should it only be something that women should be able to do. Its a a job, and just like any other they wont be there unless they are good at what they do. And im sure they will be very good at what they do, cant wait to see what its like.

I'd like to see the day in which legality comes to all "sex workers" and that they can & are routinely tested and have to retain some sort of certification, perhaps with an obligatory sex-ed & continuing ed program. Can a union and retirement benefits be far behind?

Sorry to quibble but the headline is misleading. Prostitution is not legal in Clark County (Las Vegas). The nearest brothel is in the next county a couple hours drive away, and I think the brothel that wants to hire guys is way up north, closer to Reno.

It gets better... George Flint, a minister-turned-lobbyist, is up in arms over the idea. Flint, a Reno wedding chapel owner and longtime lobbyist for the Nevada Brothel Owners Association, said he feared the idea of male prostitutes serving male clients could spur a legislative backlash. He said he works to make the brothel industry socially acceptable to both libertarians and conservatives. He called the change the "Pearl Harbor" of the brothel industry. Oh, the sanctity of prostitution.

Why are you brining the bible into a legal discussion? You wrongly assume that all of us scribe to the bible as a guide book to a "better moral and spiritual life" or as the "literal" word of God. From a legal standpoint, love the law, hate the law, intend to use the service or not, it's good for everyone as it mandates accountability and responsibility to the profession, while offering more safety for those actively in the trade.

I think that "Jack" is trying to tell us that A: that Nevada is living in sin B: Trying to say that being gay is bad even though there is no bible verse pertaining to it. and C: thinks Homosexuality is a choice and we all its not!!He is trying to be a typical catholic. I am Catholic and still don;t believe in some of the scripture because I have been in different religions. I am gay btw and love that Nevada is changing this law to give the gay community a chance for something like this instead of being on the street. Equality for all!
