Rapper Roth Loves College, Not Men

Asher Roth X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

An executive for the music label representing rapper Asher Roth released a statement Monday declaring that the artist is not gay, despite Internet rumors claiming the contrary.

DJ Vlad, the executive vice president of Loud.com and SRC Records, not only clarified Roth's sexuality, but he also squelched rumors that the rapper is planning to come out in an interview with E! News and is being dropped from his record label.

"Roth is not gay, and is not scheduled to be interviewed on the E! Channel," said Vlad in a statement, reports MTV.com. "Furthermore, Asher has not been dropped from SRC Records, and is a top priority at the label after having sold over a million copies of his 'I Love College' single."

Rumors questioning the rapper's sexuality began after websites alleged that Roth attended a LGBT rally in New York with Lady Gaga, Clay Aiken, and Michael Stipe. It was also speculated that Roth was the unnamed "gay rapper"in Terrance Dean's 2008 book, Hiding in Hip-Hop: Confession of a Down Low Brother in the Entertainment Industry.

Roth gained notoriety in 2009 for his platinum-selling single "I Love College," which peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April. He is currently working on a new album.

What I really would have liked to see is confirmation that he went to the rally, but clarification that he is straight. Every civil rights battle in history has included allies from the "privileged class" at the time. Ours is no exception. Our allies are important, and we need to stop trying to "out them". It does no one any favors.

A straight person should be able to go to an LGBT rally without people questioning his sexuality!

Slow news day? So now going to a GLBT rally turns straight people into homosexuals? Much to do about nothing.
