Falwell Jr. Comes Out Against GOProud

FalwellJR

Liberty University chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. has sent a letter to American Conservative Union chairman David Keene saying  he and Liberty Counsel founder and chairman Mat Staver will boycott the 2010 Conservative Political Action Conference if the gay GOP group GOProud is allowed stay on as a sponsor of the February event. The letter asks Keene to respond by 5 p.m. (Eastern) Tuesday.

GOProud announced earlier this month at that it would be a cosponsor of the event, whose guests are expected to include Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich, and Bobby Jindal. “GOProud’s participation at CPAC is one of the most important things we’ll do all year,” said GOProud executive director Jimmy LaSalvia. “This gathering of the nation’s most influential conservatives gives us an incredible opportunity to deliver our message.”

What’s becoming clear, though, is that some of those conservatives don’t want to hear GOProud’s message. Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan, joined Falwell in demanding the group be removed as a sponsor, saying the group’s inclusion is evidence of the “dumbing down of the pro-family stand in the public policy arena.”

Once again, Why would you be a Republican if you are Gay? And Just as before the Republicans eat their own to please the Far Right Religious Platform the base obviously overwhelmingly supports. Get a clue Gays get out while you still have some dignity.

It's understandable that some gays might be fiscally conservative or have other Republican political leanings. And what I would like to see is moderate groups like the GOProud put enough pressure on the party that the hardcore Christian Conservatives walk away and form a new conservative party like those Teabaggers keep threatening. If people give up completely that hands over the entire party to Fundies.

Now how does this not have the appearance of wanting the GOP to be run by the Christian religion? How can one be for this kind of grandstanding and at the same time criticizing nations run as theocracies with clerics in control of government decisions? Just because Liberty Counsel wants some kind of Christian Taliban doesn't mean the rest of America thinks this is needed or desirable.

It'll be interesting to see what comes of this. I wonder if the other sponsers will follow thru with their threat(s)--and if so will the Republicans then refuse to allow GOProud to be a sponser.

OK Gay Pachyderm...why don't you articulate what you believe the GOP will strive to do that is good for GLBT people? I would really like to hear your take on the issues. I will listen with an open mind, if you can be civil and issue oriented. How about it?

That is because you are bias and do not want other gay people to exercise our right to chose (ah remember that phrase? you libs always flashed that around "right to chose!") But if you cannot say anything that is substantiating then please refrain from burning up whatever brain cells you might have left, and gathering by your comments you don't know one ounce what conservatism is, because you have a shallow view point that conservatism is innately homophobic, not only is that wrong, that is utterly absurd and only something an uneducated person would say. You can demand all you want, but come 2010 you will find how liberalism has failed you and this country.

I still don't understand why any gay man would want to be part of the GOP. Yes, the Democrats are a bit disappointing at the moment with their "go slow" approach when they are in the majority and could easily pass more pro-gay legislation. But if you're waiting for the GOP as a party to get behind any pro-gay legislation you'll be waiting a long, LONG time. There are some folks in the GOP who are tolerant of gay folks but they are in the minority and that's the way it is going to stay. Wake up, gay Republicans. They don't really want you in their party!

I can't believe that some of you flat earthers actually side with Falwell. He is not the GOP, the GOP is comprised of different people. And you gay liberal drones hate gay conservatives. You then lend credence to this other flat earther like Falwell. All this homophobic anti-gay conservative hatred proves a point, that liberals are hateful people. You squeeze an orange for orange juice, you squeeze a liberal for vile and vicious hate.
