Dane, Cooper Degayed in Valentine’s Day Trailer

ERIC DANE BRADLEY COOPER X390

Valentine’s Day opens in February and pretty much stars every A-list actor who has ever made a romantic comedy — but one pairing you won’t see in the trailer is Eric Dane and Bradley Cooper.

AfterElton.com writes that in the film — which follows several couples as they navigate relationship woes on V-day — Cooper is in love with a closeted football player, played by Dane.

But a trailer for the film doesn’t even hint at their relationship. Instead, it seems to imply that Cooper is in a relationship with Julia Roberts.

“Is it really impossible to market an ensemble romantic comedy to the masses with a gay couple in it?” After Elton’s Ed Kennedy writes. “Could that really be considered a bad marketing move in Hollywood now? First, a gay director (Tom Ford) takes a movie about a gay man based on a book by a gay man and degays the marketing for that movie, and now this?”

Art, I've read Josh and Terry's earlier posts. I now understand. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm angrier at the Jennifer Garner "love scene" with a boy! Why is is appropriate for a bitch to "date" a boy, but not a man to date a girl? It's now THE main reason why I won't be watching the movie. And another reason why I going to cancel my magazine subscription to the Advocate for ignoring this inappropriate scene.

Calvin, That last part of my comment was meant to be more in general. People on here get bitter, vicious and turn on each other at the drop of a hat. It happens to me on occaision because I sometimes say things that are not very popular, but I never get ugly back to them because I refuse to lower myself to their level. In fact I often never even respond back because once I have said what I wanted to say I am done. The only exception is if I think someone misunderstood me. But what Terry said to Josh was uncalled for. Terry over reacted to this article and Josh brought that up and Terry told him to "suck a grenade" that was ridiculous.

I agree with George. Young women will be dragging their male companions to see this flick for all the romantic reasons. And both will get exposed to a same sex couple having the same romantic experiences they have. Good PR. And besides, it encourages some of us to go. Calvin: check out My Beautiful Laundrette. I think you might like it. Terry, how in the heck did you make time in your politically correct day to read this article then comment on it? Is it possible just such mass consumed fluff is better social trivia actually changes more minds than all the marching, letter writing, and other important stuff we do?

Art I think you misread Josh's post. No one's turning against each other. There's nothing truthful about Valentine's Day the movie. All successful, gay, handsome white men don't always hook up each other, as depicted in yet another racist and homophobic gay movie. I know because I date successful, older, handsome gay white tops. But, you'd never know that according to the gay arts, entertainment and media. You'd think as you do that all successful, handsome young gay men are white and sexy like the characters in "Valentine's Day."

WOW Terry, that was rather mean spirited and a bit bashing and uncalled for towards Josh. This was published in the Entertainment section. Just because we are gay doesn't mean that we have to be so one-sided that we have to only look at one issue and can't have a little fun. Why do we always end up turning on each other on these message boards?

Didn't they already do this movie, under the name "Love, Actually?" I agree with Paul in Detroit; this movie doesn't look very interesting at all. Unless Bradley Cooper and Eric Dane get it on on film, which is highly unlikely. Also, folks, the Advocate is a big enough magazine/web site that it can hold both the hard-hitting news/opinions AND the fluffy entertainment stuff (even the stuff with dubious connections to gay interests). Can we please process past those inane complaints?! Honestly, we have so much more to discuss than whether or not the Advocate is editorially correct!!

I'm not interested in me and my white partner being misrepresented by yet another white gay couple in entertainment. So I wont be seeing the movie.LOL Besides I HATE Julia Roberts! I've never seen a gay movie. Too young at the time. No, I didn't even see "Making Love" in the 80's either. Even that movie didn't represent me and my boyfriend at the time. My partner and I are handsome, college grads, working middle class sexy gay men. But people would never know it judging by the depictions in this gay movie, unless Roger, etc. and I were bottom and top bisexuals. Tom Ford, and his partner, is not exactly representative of gay men. It's time that gay media stops stereotyping gay men as white old self-loathing or sexy young men. Ford's just rich, successful and pretentiously gay like so many other so-called gay men. He, and his partner, shouldn't be accountable for gay men because they're not.
