John McCain: Won't Follow Wife's Lead

Cindy McCain x390 (Fair Use) I Advocate.com

The announcement Wednesday that Cindy McCain had come out for marriage equality by posing for the NOH8 campaign may have changed a few people’s opinions about the former would-be first lady. But it appears that Mrs. McCain’s photo session has done little to change her husband’s mind about marriage rights for gay people.

Senator John McCain’s office has issued a statement saying that the senator respects his family members’ views, but that he is still opposed to gay marriage, The Washington Post reports. “Sen. McCain believes the sanctity of marriage is only defined as between one man and one woman,” the statement said. It's the same statement McCain made to Ellen DeGeneres before she got married in 2008 (see the video below).

McCain's statement on Wednesday, however, seems in opposition to what NOH8 creator and photographer Adam Bouska told The Advocate after his shoot with Mrs. McCain. When asked if his time with Cindy McCain gave him any indication that her husband might be budging on the issue, Bouska responded: “Um, I got that impression. I don’t know that I should speak much about it, but I definitely got that impression.”

I've long believed that John may be lying the public and personally be in favor of gay rights. However, I guess its how he behaves as a politician that matters. So if he personally supports us SO WHAT!

I used to sort of respect McCain back when he was running against George Bush. Now he has become just another hypocritical obstructionist senator, a sick excuse for a public servant. I resent him and his kind right now more than I do the plain ole religious antigay rabid types.

I just LOVE the 'do-as-I say, not-as-I-do' crowd. John McCain is NOBODY to be talking about the 'sanctity' of marriage. He was quite the 'Don Juan' in his youth and was cheating with Cindy, on his former wife, before he and Cindy married. That was one reason Cindy had him sign a pre-nup. After all his denials, now even John Edwards is acknowledging he fathered his mistress' child! Those who oppose our rights most strongly, are usually the same people who have the most to hide, themselves!

John McCain doesn't know anything else but what the Republican Party knows....no suprise here. He is one of the many who have changed that party to it ignorant ways. The see nothing further than their noses nor do any Republican in office want to go beyond their noses...."NO" is their word, and work, and choose to play politcs instead of doing their job to work for the people. But I have to say, it seems also recently due to the Republican winner in Massechusettes, the Democratic response of cowardice reminds me more of the nay sayers in the other party. Maybe we voters should fire all in both parties in both Houses and hire someone who has balls to get into the ring and fight for all people...as with health care issue. This issue can pass and win, but with all the monetary influences from those who not want it in law....their money makes you Politicians cowards, to be in your own power to stand up for your principles, and it takes away your integrity.

He should listen to his wife (and daughter).

Don't count on Michelle Obama. During the recently televised "Kennedy Center Honors" program, Michelle (who usually has a smile on her face) looked like she had a mouth full of vinegar while Melissa Etheridge was performing. But, to be fair, it could have been for some other reason.

Now if we could get Michelle Obama to pose as well, then maybe we would be getting somewhere. I'm much more interested/dismayed by the betrayal of my Democratic President than I am over one lone Republican senator.

Mr McCain is unable to sympathize with the gay community because as a white, heterosexual male he has never experienced discrimination. He has his full rights and always has, and he is married (although he should listen to his wife and daughter), so why should he protest others from having the rights that he has? Also no doubt he has been bought off by special interest groups to speak against equality. Also, one must wonder... If he genuinly cares so much about the sanctity of marriage being one man, one woman til death do they part, then how many marriages and divorces has he had?

What is it that John McCain doesn't understand about equality for every American citizen? I wouldn't vote for another person in Americas government if they don't understand this important issue.

“Sen. McCain believes the sanctity of marriage is only defined as between one man and one woman and all the blondes that he chooses to sleep with,” the statement said. Let's not forget he cheated on wife #2 as well.
