Syfy's Caprica to Feature LGBT Characters

Caprica, the show set 58 years before Battlestar Galactica, the cult hit on which Caprica is based, will premiere Friday at 9 p.m. on Syfy.

Executive producer Remi Aubuchon described the show as “television’s first science fiction family saga.” The series depicts the genesis of the genocidal Cylons and why they hate humans..

According to AfterElton.com, Sam Adama, brother to main character Joseph Adama, is married and gay — a first for the Battlestar Galactica universe. However, executive producer Jennifer Espenson said gay is not a word Caprica will use.

"Why do you have to have a different word for who they fall in love with?" Espenson asked on AfterElton.com. "Having a different word for a same-sex relationship struck me as something this culture wouldn't have thought of since those relationships were just considered on a par and unremarkable."

The science fiction epic also features a bisexual female character, Sister Clarice Willow (Polly Walker).

Seen the ep and it is to a man. He has a hot male husband so Caprica is holding true to what they said.

I agree, if he is married to a woman it is just "will and grace in space."

It was so refreshing to see a lesbian character on Stargate Universe. I'm THRILLED that Caprica's creators heard the message of BSG's LGBT and Ally fans that we deserved representation. I was really let down that Gaeta's and Hoshi's relationship didn't survive the webisodes "The Face of the Enemy."

Is he married to a man or a woman? If it's to a woman, I'll pass. We've seen enough of that on TV.
