John McCain: No to DADT Repeal

Following President Obama's State of the Union address, Republican Sen. John McCain issued a statement saying he disagreed with the president's pledge to repeal"don't ask, don't tell."

"In his State of the Union address, President Obama asked Congress to repeal the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy. I am immensely proud of, and thankful for, every American who wears the uniform of our country, especially at a time of war, and I believe it would be a mistake to repeal the policy.

"This successful policy has been in effect for over fifteen years, and it is well understood and predominantly supported by our military at all levels. We have the best trained, best equipped, and most professional force in the history of our country, and the men and women in uniform are performing heroically in two wars. At a time when our Armed Forces are fighting and sacrificing on the battlefield, now is not the time to abandon the policy."

In Canada our constitution and our "bill of rights" enshrines the term - sexual orientation - as an issue of non-discrimination . The far right party now as government has no further intention of excluding this from our laws. The supreme court has confirmed it is not revocable as it would require to exclude the term sex as in gender as well. Our military is inclusive and allows gay couples to Permanent Marriage housing on bases. All our private and public institutions even American Companies with operations in Canada have to comply with the letter and spirt of our intent to not discriminate. We have gay marriages and adoption. During the last few decades America has fallen way behind in social justice generally and glbt issues in particular. Our nation has not been diminished but enhance. The fears of the conservatives has not been realized. Could I also add "UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE !" Good luck to get all this for your great nation !

"I am immensely proud of, and thankful for, every American who wears the uniform of our country". How can that statement be followed by something that directly contradicts it? And how can anyone take this man seriously after saying that the 15 y.o. DODT policy has been successful? Does the man know what the word "successful" means? How many enlisted men and women were discharged under DODT? How many careers and lives did it ruin? In how many different ways has the policy jeopardized our national safety, like when all those otherwise qualified Arabic translators were discharged because of DODT? If there were some kind of electric prod that jolted every A*HOLE whenever they told a fib, justice still would not be served. They should only experience the hardship and financial losses associated with discharges under DODT that those discharged suffer from, and pain, anguish and damage to self-esteem to those who continue to have to hide who they are under this draconian policy.

Why are there so many bigoted folks in this country? Why are they afraid of repealing the DADT, is this really going to cause a great change in their everydy lifestyle? I don't think so. Europe has had gays in the military for years and they've not had any problems (reported), so why, we the greatest country in the world ( so we say) afraid of having gays in the military? They are protecting us the same as non-gays in the military, probably better than the Assholes who are straight. How many gays have been court martiled, kicked out of the military for rape, sodomy, etc.? Gays are only kicked out because they are gay. The old fuck McCain should give it up, such an asshole. What about his daughter?

Why is he being dragged out for his opinion anyway?? The American people hae already told him a few times in the polls that they don't want his opinions or that they disagree with them. He has nothing relevant to offer anyone politcally so why not bring out the future builders to get their opinions ...the up and comers from both political parties who may be in office one day?? Would make more sense to me...

Above is what Sen. McCain said. What follows is what he means and believes: "I am immensely proud of, and thankful for, every American who wears the uniform of our country, but I regard gays and lesbians who wear the uniform as second-class citizens. They die for their country, but they die as second-class citizens. They defend my rights as an American, but they don't deserve the same rights as other Americans. I believe in liberty and justice for all, except for gay and lesbian Americans, who are a minority that don't deserve the rights held and cherished by the majority."
