Utah Lawmakers Want a Year to Study Gay Discrimination Ban

Utah lawmakers will not take up a law that would ban discrimination against gays and lesbians in the workforce and in housing, and instead will spend a year studying the issue.

According to the Associated Press, in exchange, opponents of gay rights legislation have agreed to not spend time attempting to block local governments from passing their own nondiscrimination laws this legislative session.

Gay rights advocates were pushing for a nondiscrimination law at the state level, building on momentum created by the Salt Lake City council, which passed nondiscrimination ordinances last year.

Those ordinances passed with the support of the Mormon Church.

Many Mormons seem open to anti-discrimation laws for gays yet remain opposed to marriage equality. At least people with this position aren't as bad as those who even oppose the mosr basic protections for lgbt people.

Well of course this didn't pass. The mormon cult isn't doing anything but paying lip services to equal rights for gays after the whole prop 8 public relations disaster. This nut bag cult wants nothing more than to be seen as a real religion. The tactic to accomplish this has been to lay low in the public eye do everything possible to affect public policy around the country until the cult has enough members to be considered legitimate. Shine the light of truth on them and they run like roaches. So after they took their well deserved prop 8 beat down they played the victim and then put on a show about not being hate mongers.
