Broadway Hoofers Deliver Splashy Strip Show

Broadwaybaresopener

Seven of Broadway's hottest male performers stripped to two capacity crowds and took in an estimated $9,260. The evening titled Broadway Bares: Solo Strips, an inaugural solo version of the annual Broadway Bares fundraiser, took place at New York's popular Splash nightclub on January 31. The evening served as a fundraiser for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS, which is the nation's leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization.

The performers, all veterans of previous Broadway Bares events, were Joshua Buscher (West Side Story), John Carroll (A Chorus Line national tour, also the Broadway Bares 18 poster boy), Daniel Robinson (Hairspray), Anton Harrison LaMon (The Phantom of the Opera), Tony James (The Lion King), Nick Kenkel (Legally Blonde) and Kenway Kua (Wicked). Broadway actress and recording artist Felicia Finley (Catch Me If You Can, The Wedding Singer), acted as emcee for the evening and opened the show with a cover of the Foreigner classic "Feels Like the First Time."

In a videotaped message, creator Jerry Mitchell announced a goal to raise $1 million to benefit BC/EFA at the forthcoming Broadway Bares 20, which is scheduled for June 20 at New York's Roseland Ballroom.
