Animal Rights Group "Not Queer Enough"

MARDI GRAS AUSTRALIA X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

An animal rights organization is complaining that its request for a spot in Sydney's Mardi Gras parade was denied for being "not queer enough."

According to SX Magazine, Animal Liberation of New South Wales was denied a float on the basis that it was "not queer enough," despite the group's claims that the majority of its participants in the past 13 years of the parade have identified as gay.

When the organization's application was denied, the group's name was changed to Sydney Queers for Animal Rights, but it was again denied. Animal Liberation has expressed dismay that several irrelevant floats were approved, including an Ikea float.

Communications manager Lynda Stoner told SX, "We feel marginalized and discriminated against, and that's really quite distressing, especially coming from Mardi Gras, which is all about making a stand against discrimination."

Gay and Lesbian people do have pets, and our fur children and animal mates support us in tough times, seems Mardi Gras feels this support is not to be returned. What a bunch of Bitches. With over 9000 Marchers and more than a hundred floats isn't there room for a little more political comment that we are here, we are queer, we take cock, or lick pussy, like naked bodies and like stylish things? The argument that there is not room is ridiculous, as the the one that says Queer rights come first, ok, put the Animal Libbers at float number 123? And as for more animal testing means more and faster medication? Sorry the science just doesn't support it. Focus that anger on Americas useless Political/Medical industry. In Australia we have free healthcare, free HIV medication, free cancer medication (yup kind of like Canada) and our elderly population benefit too without lobbying the conservative parties to exclude others. Lets not advocate to hurt others to better ourselves.

Interestingly no LGBT media in Australia is reporting this story yet The Advocate, Pink News, Queerty, 365gay.com, Towleroad etc. all think its a story. The only gay media in Australia to report it was SX magazine (and only online, not in print) but now the story has disappeared from their site. Is the Sydney Mardi Gras threatening Australia's gay media into ignoring this story? Why would it be a big story overseas but not in Australia where Mardi Gras is actually held?

So this is what we want? Mainstream organizations feeling they have the right to use the word "queer" on us, and then defining for us what "queer" is supposed to mean? No wonder our equality movement is stalled. We need some consciousness-raising up in here!

What can be more queer than someone using my name as their own post.? I had nothing to do with the earlier post here listed in my initial and hometown. Cute. Obviously I bruised some fag nerves. You couldn't have made me happier than putting my name on this post. I don't feel this way but if you are scummy enough to want to forge my opinion then go ahead, I love it when assholes show their true colors. LMAO. FABULOUS!

Gay people who yell about the 'rights" of rodents while we are being killed are showing their self hatred and low self esteem I am not interested in such a cause. Case in point would be the awful PETA which even protested when a gay man with Aids got an animal part to save his life. I am kind to any dogs I see but my life is worth more and I feel there is nothing wrong with eating fried chicken or wearing a mink coat. I don't support the rodent right to lifers any more than I support the fetus ones.

Sounds like a poor decision. Plenty of gay people are opposed to the inhumane treatment of animals and should be permitted to express their point of view.

Dress 5 bigger than life drag queens with 5 super hunky guys at the center of on a moving platform, on levels and facing out. Add lots of dogs on fabulous leashes and leather straps the drag queens and hunks are holding. Include shade, pillows, water and other visuals. The other marchers fully dressed in rescue gear, can walk and roller blade around and by the platform passing out information. How gay is that? But why do guys think it’s cool to parade in just shorts for everything and call it pride? And that’s supposed to impress? I don't mind eye candy, not at all, but we should represent more.

Don't suppose this has anything to do with the fact that Taronga Zoo is a festival sponsor? Honestly though - an IKEA float?? Because there's nothing that says equal marriage rights like a portable day bed.

When will people learn that discrimination means the same thing no matter what your gender/age/race/class/sexual preferences/species? What a shame that these queer activists can not see that working together with other groups who wish to create a better world through social change can only be a positive thing? Is support for gay rights a "members only" thing now? I guess I better reconsider my views then! Furthermore, when will people realise that we may very well have found a cure for AIDS by now if we weren't wasting time, money and resources on ineffective tests on species with completely different physiologies to our own? Visit www.aahr.org.au for more info. If these queer activists were serious about medical progress, they would immediately donate a wad of dollars to their nearest animal rights group.
