Md. Gay Marriage Ban Dies in Committee

MARYLAND STATE HOUSE X390 (FAIR USE) | ADVOCATE.COM

A Maryland house committee rejected a bill that would have banned same-sex marriage and stopped the state from recognizing same-sex marriages performed elsewhere.

The house of delegates judiciary committee voted down the proposal by Baltimore County delegate Emmett C. Burns Jr., according to the Baltimore Sun.

Burns introduced the bill in January, as the state attorney general, Doug Gansler, was reportedly preparing to issue an opinion on out-of-state marriage recognition.

Other bills to ban same-sex marriage in Maryland have been proposed in the past but have been unable to reach a floor vote.

I think that Maryland should just allow same-sex marriage more than just straight marriage. Because straight marriage can hurt everyone without knowing about what went wrong. Straight Marriage is wrong anyway and gaymarriage is good for Maryland. Please don`t take away gay marriage. Straight marriage can cost too much money.

Perhaps the political ghost of Governor Glendenning is at work in Maryland. THERE was a governor who took the lead for same-sex equality. The problem was he was too far ahead of the curve. If ONLY he was in office, now. At least some members of the Maryland legislature are willing to do the right thing.

I was there during the testimony. 4 people testified for it. a hundred were there opposing it, and about 20 got to testify. Burns is black. Isn't it amazing how conservative christianity turns victims into victimizers. Really what this was about is Burns grandstanding for his re-election this fall. And supporting the very homophobic (secretly gay) people like Delegate Dwyer, who is always introducing anti-gay marriage bills. Dwyer of course, reputedly danced partially naked at a gay bar called the atlantis years ago. And his good christian daughters - one of them, I think it was Ashley - she's apparently married now, was getting screwed on a regular basis by a youngster I knew, about 3 years ago. His kids, I was told, think he is a mental case. Of course he almost certainly is secretly gay, and - its not exactly hatred - but his great fear that he will end up in hell, that drives him to try and make amends with Satan really, not god, with his objecting to equality for gays
