Equality California vs. Meg Whitman

MEG WHITMAN (MEGWHITMAN.COM) X390

California voters won’t elect a new governor until the end of the year, but already Equality California is sending out e-mails urging gay voters not to support Meg Whitman, the former eBay CEO they say is anti-equality.

Though Whitman has pointed to her track record at eBay as evidence she supports equal rights, she actively campaigned in favor of Proposition 8, the ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage in the state.

Reads Equality California’s e-mail: “She is trying to buy the governor’s office with ads that fail to tell the true story about who she really is — an anti-equality candidate who has fought to eliminate the rights of LGBT people in an attempt to drum up conservative support to win an election.”

The email suggests that while current Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has refused to defend Prop. 8 in court and has “signed into law dozens of pro-LGBT rights bills,” Meg Whitman “advocated for eliminating our fundamental freedoms.”

As a former COO and President of a publically traded subsidiary in the insurance industry, I can assure you Meg Whitman would not only be BAD for California but would also be dangerous. Whenever someone openly discriminates against a group of people (LGBT) you are undermining the very essence of business and growth in a very diverse region of the U.S. She is cluless to the fact that the LGBT community controls billions of dollars in this great state, along with the fact that her "Seperatism mentality" is just immoral. I am NOT impressed with her credential. Californiais not a company, so running a company does not qualify her AT ALL for this job. It is frightening to think how she would run this state. I get the feeling she would have no problem with who she had to hurt balance the budget. I don't trust her. The people of California are hurting. Education is hurting. I feel she would only make it worse. I urge people to NOT vote for this woman. The People of California need to be the bottom line. I don't see her as putting anything other than cost-cutting and big business as her priorities. Yes, this is just my opinion, but it is a strong one. I have no doubt that she will give me more reason to doubt her qualifications.

Wow you're a democrat you say? because I can't think of a worse candidate, honestly I like the other republican 100 times more than Meg Whitman. Whitman is just another millionaire bafoon trying to make a name for herself. There is a big difference between running a company and running a state. Her imbecility and lack of tact is atrocious, and further more how can we elect someone to the governor position who doesn't support all of California's citizens and in fact campaigned to take minorities rights away? Whitman is the WORST choice for California.

As an active Democrat, I like Meg's style and I think we need a Republican to clean house once and for all. The Democratic Legislature has wreaked havoc on our state in every way immaginable. As for marriage and abortion, neither of which she supports, the Governor will have zero say in these matters. Per the State Constitution, only voters (or a court) can undo what voters pass, and Prop 8 falls in this category. And abortion is a non-issue in CA. Even if she wanted to campaign to limit abortion in CA, the Legislature wouldn't let it happen. So for the things that CAN actually be changed in our state, like job creation, infrastructure, etc. I think she'd be great to give the Dems a kick in the butt and change the corrupt, business-as-usual approach in Sacramento. Meg for Governor!

If she doesn't want total equality, that she enjoys, and our Constitution gives all Americans, and that would include marriage, then why would she expect to be voted-on for anything?

If she campaigned in favor or Prop 8, that is all that ever need be said about the woman.

Although I can understand the frustration with the fact that it seems that no one is rushing to put themselves out there in support of Equal Rights for LGBT community...at least the Democrats have a do no harm philosophy. The Conservative Republicans are being influenced by religious groups who would actually like to see homosexuality criminalized. It's not right, and not fair. However, if I can't find a representative willing to just do what's right, and stand for total equality, I will at least go with the guy/gal who would seek to do me no harm...leaving me to fight for total equality again tomorrow.

Wish Tom Campbell were still running for governor. But any way, gay voters don't just have ONLY gay rights in mind. Besides gay rights, there are jobs, crime prevention, etc... Now that we know BOTH PARTIES WON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT GAY RIGHTS, a rational gay voter would then run down the list of other issues and pick the candidate that represents our (other) issues the best. It's almost certain that Whitman and the OLD Moonbeam (he's 72! Even older than Emmett Burns-http://dcagenda.com/2010/01/democrat-introduces-anti-gay-bill-in-md/) are the last two standings. Just pick the one that you like the best on OTHER issues.

I agree with the don't give program, but that doesn't mean we have t stand on the sidelines and not speak up and be heard ...for if we do we're liable to lose even more gorund....remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
