Va. Senate OKs Worker Protections

The Virginia state senate passed a measure Monday that would protect gay and lesbian state employees from discrimination, marking the first time such a measure has passed either chamber of the Virginia general assembly.

The bill was approved 23-17 by a near party-line vote in the Democratic-controlled senate, according to The Washington Post. It is likely to die in the Republican-controlled house of delegates.

New governor Robert McDonnell, a Republican, has not renewed executive orders from two previous Democratic governors that protected state workers from discrimination based on sexual orientation. He has said that the legislature is the appropriate place to decide the issue.

A bill that would write into law the past two governors' executive orders banning bias on the basis of sexual orientation of state workers made it through the Va Senate yesterday it now head to the House, where it faces a more hostile reception before a substantial GOP majority traditionally hostile to gay rights issues. I don't except it go get any further and I don't think it will EVER become law not here in Va. I also think it was a lame attempt by Equality Va to hide the term or word “ Transgender “ inside the definition of sexual orientation,

In what they would call Inclusiveness and yet hide in the closet the Iggy trans people that they known are a turn off to legislators....My answer for that would be to clarify the different between Transgender and Transsexual to the Va Senate and to try and have the bill covering the people who have a documented and diagnosis medical condition to gain equality. This same approach could be used one a federal level to help pass ENDA since the big hang up is always the bathroom issue.

The GOP couldn't complain about people with a diagnosis medical condition using the bathroom like they can the cder's transvestites and every other fool that throws on a dress they are the ones who have combined their fantasy lives and tried to fool the public into believe they have some kind of Gender Identity crisis well it just ain't so they have drug down and diluted the definition of GID for long enough. The definition of LGB-T has been distorted as well Original the T stood for Transsexual not Transgender.

It is certainly a good and worthy statement, and I like the message it sends to the talibangelical governor. Sadly, it won't go anywhere... :(
