Madonna uses a shovel during a ceremony to officially
launch the construction work of Madonna's Raising Malawi
Girls Academy in Lilongwe on October 26, 2009.

Pop superstar Madonna’s plan to build a school for girls in poverty-stricken Malawi will soon be realized, reports BBC News.

Villagers had been protesting the construction but have now accepted compensation of $105, 000 and agreed to leave their land. Madonna has two adopted children, David and Mercy, who were born in Malawi.

Construction of Raising Malawi Girls Academy is expected to begin soon just outside Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.

It's about time she did something for the less fortunate. I mean really, she is finally doing something besides giving TWO kids in the world a better opportunity. The woman doesn't even speak out and use her status for major causes, oh say like gay rights!

Nice heels. She has never held a shovel. How do you shovel like that? With proper funding, the school could turn out to be a really good thing. Besides it takes her attention away from men, young and mature, for a second.
