Real World’s Mike Manning: “I’m Bi, Deal"

MIKE MANNING X390

The Real World’s Mike Manning talked with AfterElton.com about being bisexual and the perception that bi is really just a stopover on the way to being gay.

“I'm more attracted to guys, and I'll admit that. I'll admit that to you in an interview, and I'll admit that on national television. I don't know where people get the impression that I'm too insecure to admit that I'm gay.”

Manning says that he still gets aroused by women… something that simply wouldn’t happen if he were gay. He also says being on The Real World helped him to come to terms with who he is.

I'm gay, and I believe that people are bi. I can't stand how people say that someone isn't bi. If you're gay, just think about what someone that isn't gay says about gays. They aren't coming from the point of view, but they sure have a hell of a lot to say. Let others be, and just move on to something more important. Some people love, and for them, it doesn't matter who, just as long as they love the person. Based on their own perceptions. Me, I know I'm only attracted to men, and could only love a man in the way that leads to marriage.

my problem with him is, he said he was in love with Tanner- then he goes out and makes out with a girl to show off for his brother- he seems like a user/attention junky (of course, being on a reality show, we already knew that)...being bi doesn't mean have both at the same time- you still have to consider other people's feelings.

Young Bi people need role models too! Denial of a third leg of sexuality is wrong. It is no different than hetero's saying we make a CHOICE to be gay. Think about what you are saying people!

Yeah, that's the script: "I'm questioning my sexuality." "I think I may be bisexual." "I'm bisexual." "I'm gay." He's young. He'll stop lying to himself and the world soon and come out. Young gay/lesbians need role models. He should stop lying and be the role model they seek.

Not Bi-ing It....Your rationality is flawed. Gay mens brains have very similar aspects to womens brain function. Does that make you a girl?

Is there anything more annoying than a bunch of queers dishing back and forth over some unimportant subject? It really doesn't matter whether or not bisexuality exists, but it is clear that some guys do both sexes. Usually they do one more than the other. And speaking of Kinsey, he had sex with his wife and with one of his assistants. The only concern I have personally about bi's is their likely inability to form a committed relationship with one or the other. Otherwise, let them do as they please.

bi men are attracted to men. gay men are attracted to men. of course they have the same responses. again, you're basing your attitudes on old fashioned perspectives. drag your brains into the 21st century, queens. this "bi is really gay" may be true for men in their 50's now who got married to women in 1974 when, outside of big cities, there was barely any awareness of homosexuality at all. do any of you naysayers even talk to anyone under 40? you don't know what you're talking about.

Known men that were married to women. Had sex with them. Had children. Years-long opposite-sex relationships. Divorced their wives, and now date men. You'd think, of all people, that they could claim the "bi" label. Nope. They now identify as gay. Gay when they got married to women, gay when they had children, and gay today. Gay men can and do have sex with women - but it doesn't make them straight, nor "bisexual." They're just too confused/ashamed to deal with how they really are. See NYTimes article: Straight, Gay or Lying? Bisexuality Revisited. Some claim the sample size was too small in this survey. I bet if you expanded the size to 10x or 100x, you'd get the same results: bi men have virtually identical sexual responses as gay men. Which would make them gay.

@Michael in Philly - yeah, those pesky bisexuals should just hide their sexuality, or pretend to be gay, to make things easier for the the rest of us. (Sound familiar?) Otherwise the right-wing psychos might get mad and say more psycho right-wing shit about us. Are you fucking kidding me? What a hypocritical, self-serving position to take. You're clearly one of the bigots I referred to in my last post...
