Lambert Talks AMAs, Disses Susan Boyle

SUSAN BOYLE ADAM LAMBERT X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Out and outspoken pop star Adam Lambert discusses his controversial performance on last year's American Music Awards and reveals his opinion of Susan Boyle’s album in an interview with Britain’s Gay Times.

When Lambert appeared on the American Music Awards last November and delivered a sexually charged (complete with faux oral sex) performance of his song “For Your Entertainment,” jaws dropped, and the fallout resulted in a planned performance on Good Morning America being canceled. Lambert tells Gay Times, “In my circle, and in a lot of the underground clubs and performance spaces in Los Angeles nobody thinks twice about it, they love it. Then I gave what I thought was a harmless performance and everybody jumps down my throat about it. And I’m like ‘Sorry, I didn’t realize it was going to be that big a deal.’”

While For Your Entertainment, his debut album, sold an impressive 200, 000 copies during its first week, Lambert was still disappointed that he was outsold by another televised talent competition veteran, Susan Boyle. “If only it weren’t for Susan Boyle!” Adam says, with a laugh. “I’m happy for her success, but that album is terrible. ‘Wild Horses’ is the one that made me laugh the hardest. I just died when I heard it, I was crying with laughter. It was the most horrendous, sacrilegious treatment of that song!”

Adam is a talentless hack that wouldn't know what real talent was even if it bit him on the tush. He is classless and horrible representative for the gay community. He should realize his fifteen minutes of fame is over, take a bow, and go back to doing whatever it was he did before Idol. Which I'm guessing wasn't much.

Adam is talented, but, let's face it, limited. He can sing, but he's a flash-in-the-pan. Mostly glam, a ton of eyeliner and hairgel masking a so-so-talent. Susan, on the otherhand, no glam -- just voice.

I don't think Adam was being rude. He was just being cheeky about not debuting in first place. I think his comments were meant in a good-natured way. And you guys are wrong. He's very talented.

OK, gents. You are wrong about this guy. I watched every episode of Idol and have seen and read many of Adam's interviews. I am here to tell you that Adam Lambert is charming, full of class, and overflowing with talent. I'm happy my 9 y/old loves him, too. He possesses a once in a generation voice. He has great musical instincts. He has worked in the industry, since childhood. The fact is, he is a music professional with an opinion, to which he is entitled. Judging from his musical choices one might assume that he would not be enamoured by Ms Boyle's musical tastes. You notice he said he was happy for her success. You might like to ask yourselves what actually qualifies you to pass comment on him. I, too, am a music professional, that is to say that I, like Adam, earn my living from it. I'm here to tell you that if you think Adam is untalented then you are showing your naivete. If you think he lacks class, then you've never heard him speak.

Neither Adam Lambert nor Susan Boyle has much real talent, but Boyle's story is so much more interesting and compelling. Lambert is young and very self-centered, big surprise, and he's making a lot of comments that young, stupid people make. To say he has no class is an understatement.

Just another example of Lambert's lack of class, and lack of maturity. He didn't think the simulated oral sex on network TV would have caused a stir? Yeah, riiiiiiiiiight. And the Susan Boyle comment? Come on, we all know her story. If he doesn't care for he music, just say (as ostergren said in an earlier post) something nice about her and move on. No need to be a jerk.

I think Adams comments is totally uncalled for, he needs to take a good look at himself.. he's only hurting himself, with his mouth and actions. Susan Boyle is going places and hes not.. I admire Susan and shes one of my fans.. shes certainly my idol.. Adam has such poor taste.. look in the mirror before you judge someone with so much talent, that she puts Adam to shame.. her numbers show it.. her expressions show it.. she is sooo grateful, and her dreams have come true.. Adam is jealous and its sooo obvisious.. grow up Adam, and watch what you say.. He over does everything, and he's turned out to put things in such poor taste.. so leave Susan alot, as she has sooo many more fans than you.. she will put you to shame. so Adam needs to watch his choice of words, as they are hurting the few that do admire him.. I don't anymore !

Wow, every time Adam opens his mouth, he sounds like a total douche-bag. Anyone that has to slander someone else's work only highlights they own insecurities as an artist. If anyone's album is horrendous, let alone entirely FORGETTABLE it's Adam's album.

I agree, Eric. I just think that there's a way to say what you think without disparaging someone. If she had said his album was "horrendous," many of us would be defending him against her disparaging remarks, saying it's all because he's gay. Boyle does what she does; Adam does what he does, and "never the 'twain shall meet." There's no comparison to be made. They're apples and oranges. People listen and respect what a person says more if they use a little tact. I don't mean he should have lied; only that what he said, including his use of the word horrendous, came across to me as someone who thinks too much of himself, and not of others. But that's just me.
