Pop star and single father of twin boys Ricky Martin has reportedly been offered the starring role of Che in a Broadway-bound revival of Evita, according to the New York Post. The Post’s theater columnist Michael Riedel reports that a deal is currently being finalized to bring the Andrew Lloyd Webber–Tim Rice musical about Argentinean first lady Eva Peron back to the Great White Way for the first time since the original production closed in 1983.

British stage legend Elaine Page originated the role of Eva in the 1978 London stage production and Tony award-winner Patti LuPone portrayed the character in the Broadway production the same year, with Mandy Patinkin as her tormentor Che. The musical was made into a 1996 film that starred Madonna and Antonio Banderas.

If he accepts, Evita will mark a return to the stage for Martin, who rose to fame as a member of the Latin American boy band Menudo before embarking on a successful solo career and previously appeared on Broadway as Marius in Les Miserables.

Some of you guys are the most pathetic homophobics. Ricky Martin has been for over a 2 decades a big Star in almost the entire planet. The man is millionaire and a POP Icon. I read this news already on New York times, so this news is here simply because the editor of advocate wrote it. STOP JUDGING SO MUCH, Ricky always has been very private with his personal life like many other celebrities like : OPRAH WINFREY, JOHN TRAVOLTA and many other celebrities that are not openly gay, even Elton John took him for ever before he admitted openly. Ricky as OPRAH has always being gay friendly. STOP BEING SUCH A hater, that is why we as a community aren't stronger because the internal homophobia and self hatress with others. Everybody should come out on their own term when they are ready. While you are a hater queens. Ricky is a happy father of twins, a resnponsible addult man that use his time and money to help less fortunate. He has done a lot of help for Haiti.

Fascinating how celebrity culture has invaded Broadway. Instead of rewarding great actors that have made their mark in Broadway, they're bringing in "Living la vida loca" garbage. Whatever, fuck you, Broadway, I ain't seeing anything with Ricky Martin.

Cant believe how nasty the comment thread is on this article. Ricky's sexuality is a non-issue. He's handsome, sexy, talented and gay-friendly.

Let's hope he stops killing gay/lesbian teens by finally admitting he is gay and being gay isn't a horrible evil thing one can't speak about openly.
