"Ex-Gay" Group to Oversee Day of Truth

DAY OF TRUTH X390 (DAYOFTRUTH.ORG) | ADVOCATE.COM

A nationwide school event launched by religious conservatives to counter the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network’s annual Day of Silence will be promoted and overseen for the first time next month by Exodus International, an “ex-gay” organization with extensive ties to so-called conversion or reparative therapy.

Created in 2004 by the conservative legal organization Alliance Defense Fund, the Day of Truth is scheduled for April 15, one day before GLSEN’s Day of Silence event. According to its website, Day of Truth seeks “to affirm every student’s constitutional right to free speech and to provide an opportunity to have an honest conversation about sexuality.” Last year the ADF announced that Exodus would oversee implementation of the event in 2010, though the ADF’s legal team remains involved.

GLSEN representatives see the competing event differently. “We find it unfortunate that the ADF and now Exodus International tries to spin a message counter to ours, that anti-LGBT bullying is wrong,” GLSEN spokesman Daryl Presgraves said. “Students today feel more welcome and accepted, and have a sense of belonging that didn’t exist 20 years ago. Part of the Day of Truth is to take away from that, to spread the mistruths about 'conversion therapy.'”

Presgraves added that “it doesn’t look like [Exodus] is saying that bullying is OK. However, the fact that they have this counterevent a day before the Day of Silence on April 16 is telling.”

To Lisa from Toulouse: I totally agree, Americans have a strong tendency to overdiagnose. However, this same sex attraction disorder (SSD?) diagnosis of which Jerry speaks does not exist anywhere in the DSM, and the reparative therapy that goes with it is equally bogus. This terminology is only recognized by a fringe group of people, and not embraced by qualified mental health professionals, no matter whether they are GLBTQI or straight.

Because everyone there knows how fun is getting caught with a male lover on your golden years to the disappointment of "friends" and family. They even get to wear baseball hats too? Like today's hip hop artists? I always wanted to wear a cap but felt too gay for that. I'm convinced now. How do I sign up?

@Jerry: Man, You will realize that Reparative therapy does not work. I know about 7 different people that have gone through reparative therapy for over 5 years and they all say that it does not work. what DID work for them is the fact they finally understood that God KNEW it before they were even born and he loves them because he MADE THEM. three of them are still in therapy fixing the damage they submitted themselves to while going through reparative therapy. When you look in the mirror one day and realize that it did not work and that you still have an attraction for someone of the same gender, come back to this website. But the fact you are on here making comments shows that you are starting to understand

Jerry you went to that clinic and you let them TELL you that. All those things you describe as reasons you were gay can't be verified, quantified, or known by any other individual. You accepted as pure fact and truth things that no other person could possibly know about you. Free your brain, you sound like some kind of programed cultist.

God did not make you Gay! Men are not biologically compatible for sex/procreation with men. God made women from the man and for the man. Besides, it's about LOVE. For some reason, you cannot fully love a women or need the love of a man. Sounds psychological to me.
