Dutch Gays End Communion Dispute With Church

Dutch Communionx390 (Screen grab) | Advocate.com

Dutch gay rights groups ended their protests against a Catholic church in the city of Den Bosch after the church said it would no longer bar gay people from receiving communion.

Last Sunday gay rights activists disrupted mass at the Sint-Jan church southwest of Amsterdam with walkouts and pink displays because a local priest had refused communion to an openly gay man from a nearby village. Church officials said they knew the man was gay because of a role he took in a local carnival celebration.

According to the Associated Press, “The Sint-Jan church in Den Bosch says it will leave it up to believers to decide whether they are ready they are ready to receive communion.”

"Hitler was raised by Roman Catholic parents, but after he left home, he never attended Mass or received the sacraments." (Wikipedia). You can't be excommunicated once you've left the Church of your own accord.

Many Dutch Cathloics turned their backs on the Pope many years ago, for eg his discrimination of gays, his anti-abortion stance, his anti-euthanasia stance, his anti-women stance etc. You could say the Dutch Catholics in majority are very liberal, nothing compared to the harsh and fundamentalist attitudes of the Pope. Only a very small minority listens to the Pope, but its almost negligeable. This is why (gay) Catholics can still be Catholics here, they made their choice not to support the Pope. I would have a problem if the majority of the Catholic Dutch *would* support the Pope and I would understand they'd receive a lot of shit for it, but this isnt the case here.

Wouldn't it be grand if these crackers came in Ranch, BBQ, & Nacho Cheese? : ) Also, doesn't this pope creep you out? He looks like "Father Damien" from "The Exorcist" (or what he would have looked like if he had survived falling down those f*cking stairs). LOL By the way, weren't the characters of the priests who rescue Linda Blair's character "Regan" supposed to be gay? That's what I got out of it. Of course, I'm goin' straight to Hell so don't mind me.

Some nut cases say gays are mentally ill. Like Hitler said of them, and the people from the asylums as he tossed them into the ovens. Hitler was a catholic, and is not yet excommunicated by the church. Shows to go you. The Dutch Catholics should kneel down and thank God and Jesus they are out of the church. A church which is one of the 7 monstrosities of the western world. Your salvation, gay Dutch people depends on using the mind God gave you. It is as simple as that. Otherwise you are simply buying the bullets for their gun

    a) Pope Joan was a myth. b) Pope Alexander VI, the Borgia Pope, was however quite real. Two of his three illegitimate children were Lucretia Borgia and Cesare, who was an infamous torturer. When Alexander died, some say by poison, others venereal disease, his blackened and swollen corpse was too fat to fit in his coffin. The Camerlengo forbade offerings to be made at his funeral, saying, ""It is blasphemous to pray for the damned". c) Joseph Ratzinger was forced to join the Hitler Youth at 14 and drafted into the Wehrmacht but was never a Nazi Party member. He went AWOL at risk to his life and his family's. His first cousin, who had Down Syndrome, was killed in the Holocaust. d) Apparently, the shoes of the fisherman were a gift from Prada. e) Cardinal Ratzinger was prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. They are the theological office of the Holy See and responsible for the publication of encyclicals.

@rose where ever did you get the idea that the pope is the centre of the Catholic religion, he is the leader of the church but he is not the centre of the church that would be God. We are taught to believe that a true christian makes his own peace with the Lord, and for this reason many Catholics don't follow the Popes pronouncements on abortion, divorce, birth control, racism and many other areas. I am a true Catholic and I don't even believe that the current Pope has the right to wear the shoes of the fisherman. Since this Pope was a member of Hitler's Youth Brigade and the head of the Inquisition in Rome, he is not fit to be the Pope as he chose to place himself in the position of God and judge what was in men's hearts. The idea of the pope and the papacy is ridiculous in the fact that previous popes included the Borgias (famous for poison), women popes, men who dressed as women, and every other kink that you can imagine.

Wouldn't it be grand if the Catholic church actually would enforce its terrible teachings. There would be an exodus of gays and women and the institution would collapse. The only thing holding the catholic church together at this moment is massive hypocrisy. I can't understand catholics who ignore the Pope. Hello, that's the center of your religion. If people really tried to follow the teachings of the Catholic church, its moral depravity and emptiness would become obvious for all to see. Don't participate in a religion whose central precepts would be so vicious to actually practice. If a religion's central teachings are that faulty, that should be a source of information about the moral authority of that religion. Come on people. Affiliate yourself with a religion that actually SUPPORTS your spiritual and moral development. There's a radical idea.

Wouldn't it be grand if the Catholic Church in the U.S. also yielded to pressure when their homophobia was exposed? Instead, we have the Catholic Church fighting for Prop 8, marriage equality reversal in Maine, & pressuring legislators in NJ & NY to not pass marriage equality bills.
