Rove Addresses His Dad's Sexuality

Karl Rove, who served as senior adviser and deputy chief of staff to former President George W. Bush, addresses questions about his father’s sexual orientation in his new memoir, Courage and Confidence: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight,The Washington Post reports.

As the Post reports: “Rove tells a poignant family story, which includes his father’s long absences, his parents’ divorce, and his mother’s suicide. Only after the divorce would he learn that his father [Louis Claude Rove Jr.] was in fact his stepfather and that he and his brother were children of his mother’s earlier marriage. ...

“The attack dog rears his head, however, when Rove deals with questions about his stepfather’s sexual orientation. He blasts journalists for raising the issue at all — in his eyes it’s purely a liberal gambit to criticize him for his views on homosexuality. ... ‘Could Dad have been gay?’ he asks, acknowledging that his stepfather had gay friends and volunteered at an AIDS project. ‘To this day, I have no idea if my father was gay. And, frankly, I don’t care. He was my father, with whom I had a wonderful relationship and whom I loved deeply.’”

I don't care if someone is "straight" so why would I care if someone is gay.

I am seriously contemplating the ROVE/GOEBBELS link. There are so many parallels between these two lives. Goebbels fancied himself a writer as does Rove. Both men had issues with their body type and wanted to look better. Both men actively worked for evil leaders and both men were masters at propaganda, both men joined political movements that sought to glorify the past and bring it into the future. Both men served evil men and were the brains behind he operation. Rove divorced his wives but Goebbels stayed married to his wife , fathering 6 children. Goebbels was reich chancellor for less than two days and took his life after the murder of his wife and children. Interestingly the powers that be in Nazi germany and Bush's America look the other way when rights of common man are trampled upon. There was/is a base inboth instances that supports the leader to the bitter end. If you watch and listen to todays republican front runners they sound surprisingly like the nazi's before reich.

I just read up On Goebbels and there are many commonalities among Rove/Goebbels. Both suffered in the early parts of their formative years and became wounded. Goebbels worshipped the nordic type and Rove is born to nordic people. Both personalities were drawn to groups that were out to destroy all that is sacred and good and actively work to destroy goodness. both personalities hate themselves for their weakness and sought to compensate by joining up with something bigger than their personalities. Can Rove be stopped? or will he be part of a resurgent fascist republican party seeking to regain power. Can he be helped to see the effects of his choices or is he doomed to take his own life again? The future will be interesting to witness. Will Rove redeem himself or continue on his selfdestructive path? I am certain that behind the mask lies a deeply wounded and frightened man. This is the reason driving his behaviors and he is damaged and wishes to damage others. ? is he gay or not.

I believe that reincarnation is the way the universe operates and that we do not get to heaven until we have forgive our illusions. This being said, i believe it is possible for Goebbels to have come again as KARL Rove. I think he has some serious work to do in the area of forgiveness. YES , HE acts like a monster who has many demons to slay and is an embarassment to Norwegian people everywhere. He grew up in Utah ,among the Mormons who themselves have many issues where it comes to homosexuals, where conservatism is rampant and part of the culture. That America has issues around sex shoulld be no surprise as the puritans were once dominant in this nation. It can easily be cocncluded that extreme protestantism is the home of modern day puritans. How sad it is that modern americans have so much guilt around sexuality, but this version of christianity is based upon lies to begin with. I just smile at ignorant christians who insist on forcing their erronous beliefs upon me.

Rove's stepfather may have been gay, but my guess is that his biological father was Satan.

If there is one thing today's Republicans understand how to manipulate it is hyprocracy. During the 2004 elections, Rove's entire plan was to focus on the concept of "gay marriage" in able to get Bush elected. He would not have been reelected had that issue not been on the Ohio ballot, something Rove played a key role in engineering. And let's not forget the reaction of the Cheneys when Gore mentioned their daughter's being gay. Sheer outrage in spite of the fact that it was commonly known. Those opposed to the Nazi techniques used by Rove, Tony Perkins and their followers must use the same techniques to counter them.

He pioneered in making gay rights a wedge issue. He may or may not have cared about his father's homosexuality, but he certainly cared about the homosexuality of gay Americans, using it to fan up the fears and hatred of the Republican base to elect the worst President in American history and to pass all sorts of anti-gay legislation and to champion a federal Constitutional Amendment that would have banned same-sex marriage. If he really didn't care about his father's homosexuality, this is just another example of Republican hypocrisy. If he did, he is just another Republican liar. Either way, he is an asshole.

People say they "don't care" if their family members are gay. But I think if you really love someone you should care very much about everything about them, including their sexual orientation. "Caring" is not a bad thing, it is a good thing. I have family members who are gay and I care about their relationships very much and treat their partners like family members (which they are). I would almost go as far as to say that if more parents "cared" about their childrens sexual orientation it would be healthier and more nuturing and would help them develop good self esteem.

The fundamentalist anti-gay is focused on targeting homosexuality as much as possible. The idea that sexual orientation doesn't matter is enimical to folks like Peter Labarbara of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality, Michael Macarvage of Repent America, and Focus on the Family and the Family Research Counsel. These groups are built around the idea that homosexuality is one of the biggest threats to the nation and that the scientific eradication of homosexuality (or, in Uganda, of Homosexuals) is a top priority. Real conservatives, differently from fanatical Christian socialists, don't believe that sexuality should be an issue. However, by ignoring certain injustices done to homosexuals and transpeople, conservatives allow sexuality to still be a national issue and promote illegitimate movements as mentioned above to govern dangerous ideas, like in Africa. But we should all thank Rove for not making this a social nazi issue.
