The Washington State senate last week passed an antibullying bill, including protections for LGBT students in public schools, which will be signed into law.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, “The Senate vote was 48–0 and the bill had previously passed the House 97–0. Governor Christine Gregoire has pledged to sign the bill into law.”

The law will require, among other things, each school district to create a structure to manage harassment and bullying complaints, and to publish online its policies and procedures for dealing with complaints.

I'm from Washington State, and I have no complaints about how our politicians have treated LGBT equality, especially the past couple of years. They actually seem to be more progressive overall than their constituents.

Warner, I have to point out if people on the East side of Washington had their way, this would not have been past. They are the red side of our state.

Many Christian Fundamentalist quacks have opposed such legislation on it "encouraging gender disorientation". Well you know what? GAME. SET. MATCH.

I'm very proud of Washington, I moved from Alabama to SF to Washington and it has constantly proved progressive on issues of discrimination against gays. But what needs to be done is signing an ass-kicking bill to protect students who kick ass because they are tired of getting bullied. Most of the time these changes are implemented into policy it usually ends up with students getting suspended because they retaliated.

Washington is a blue state with alot of red districts... This only goes to show you that there are still times and places in our country when politics can work in a bipartisan manner. If only the rest of the country was capable of that.
