S.C. Legislators Cut HIV/AIDS Funding

SOUTH CAROLINA HIV AIDS X390 (WISTV.COM GRAB) | ADVOCATE.COM

Following the South Carolina house of representatives' vote to cut all HIV/AIDS funding from the state budget last week, local leaders and HIV patients are pushing for lawmakers to reconsider, WIS News 10 reports.

According to the South Carolina HIV/AIDS Care Crisis Task Force, about 3,000 state residents with HIV depend on state assistance for medications through the AIDS Drug Assistance Program. That program has been slashed in many states suffering deep budget cuts over the past year.

When the state began funding HIV meds in 2006, hundreds of people were on a waiting list for the drugs.

"The funding from the legislature ensured that we could eliminate that wait list, to get these 600-plus people that were in waiting to get medication off of that list and to ensure they got well [and] got back to work," said Bambi Gaddist of the South Carolina HIV/AIDS Care Crisis Task Force.

Okay, so South Carolina is cutting HIV/AIDS funding... This is a SURPRISE??? After all they have Marc Sanford; the mattress-hopping, 'family values' Governor; the 4th HIGHEST unemployment rate in the COUNTRY and a state legislature which is almost exclusively Republican and wholly-owned by the 'christian' right! What do you expect?

To SC: Have you legislators any idea of the cost of hospitalization and medical care for these 3,000 people when they can't get meds and begin to get truly sick! DON'T BE IDIOTS! FUNDING FOR MEDS SAVES MONEY THERE ARE TENS OF STUDIES THAT SUPPORT THIS! Politicians can understand one thing $$$$$$$$. WELL IT COSTS MORE FOR HOSPITALIZATION THAN PROVIDING MEDS!

Hunt down the offending members, fuck them raw, give them HIV and then they will promote funding. The hard part would be of course the actually be able to get an erection while screwing a member of the GOP!

It's not a suprise that S.C. would cut AIDS/HIV funding considering it's GOP state. The GOP would much pay trillions dropping bombs on enemy soliders and civilian men and women children that provide health care for the millions uninsured in their state. The GOP would much rather give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires they can provide CHIP for children who are poor of no fault of their own. I guess pro-life ends after birth. I just wish they could be pro-life and pro-living. Wait, they are pro-life and support killing their enemy in war. They are just inconsistent as the Bible. Anyway, next they'll be cutting cancer funding because of smokers and heart disease drugs, by passes and stents for those who overeat or eat poorly. I know we are in a fiscal crisis do to the overwhelming election of Bush in 2000, but really medicine. Where those Christian values?
