Cynthia Nixon, Joy Behar, and the ABC series Brothers & Sisters were among the recipients of the GLAAD Awards, held Saturday night in New York City.

Sex and the City star Nixon was honored with the Vito Russo Award, named after a Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation  founding member best known as the author of the book The Celluloid Closet. Behar, a cohost of ABC’s The View and host of her own show on HLN, won the Excellence in Media Award.

Also honored Saturday night were The New York Times for outstanding overall newspaper coverage, Lifetime's Prayers for Bobby for outstanding TV movie or miniseries, Regent Releasing's Little Ashes for outstanding film-limited release, and  The Advocate for outstanding overall magazine coverage.

Highlights of all three GLAAD Award ceremonies — in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco — will be broadcast on a special episode of The Advocate On-Air, available on here! TV, Gay.com, and Advocate.com.

Awards shows--especially live ones--aren't especially inexpensive to produce, especially if you consider how small LOGO and here! are, financially speaking. And the GLAAD media awards take place at different times in L.A. and NYC, so that would mean two annual TV specials (if live), not just one. Also, GLAAD is primarily a non-profit media watchdog group and personally I would have a problem if they spent their own money to put their awards show on an LGBT network--effectively preaching to the choir. Do you really want to see a crappy, low-budget production knowing that the money could be spent to fund more meaningful endeavors?

Dieter and Melvin: I agree with you two re here! and Logo. I subscribe to both, but rarely watch them because the programming is so poor. Logo is also unwatchable because they have so many commercials and the commercials are broadcast so loudly. Really disappointing. I am going to cancel my subscriptions despite wanting to support gay television.

I tend to agree with you Dieter on this Logo issue. I think this channel is owned by a larger umbrella company and apparently going very cheap. It started out with great programming, but then cheapened down. The Advocate should do a story on that and perhaps jump them on it. There are plenty of gay themed films, short stories, clips etc to work with. Even old Will & Grace shows would be good. Is some st8 running this channel?

is anyone else besides me annoyed that on here t.v. and logo....all they do is run about 6 different shows over and over again 24 hours a day 365 a year?..I mean in reality you could watch here tv or logo for one week, and you will have seen everything they have to offer...if you go back to watch the next week, it's just the same shows running in their 15th time as a re-run...there are 30 million gays in the country...surely we can come up with more than 6 shows. someone hire ME as a station or programming manager, and we would have a FULL schedule of GLBT topics and shows. I am getting ready to cancel my logo tv subscription because I have already seen all 6 shows!

Why can't they broadcast this live on LOGO instead of the same old tired reruns and second rate gay films?

They gave OLTL an award but no mention of the ending of the storyline or firing of the actors.
