LAPD Cracks Down on Park Cruising

The Los Angeles Police Department announced at a press conference Friday that officers would be cracking down on lewd activity in the city’s parks — primarily Griffith Park, Elysian Park, and Sycamore Grove, KABC TV reports.

There have been 90 lewd conduct arrests in Elysian Park since January, the officers said, adding that the people arrested on these charges are typically men engaging in same-sex sexual activity.

The officers were careful, however, to state that they weren’t targeting gay people, but anyone who chooses to have sex in public parks. “Gay, straight, bi, or whatever sexual orientation they are is not our concern,” said Sgt. Lisa Phillips. “Our concern is to stop this activity or at least attempt to abate it.”

I can relate to this totally. You don't have to be engaging in a sexual act to be pulled over as I experienced with LAPD in Elysian Park last year at this time. I was merely driving around the park and I see a cop car behind me. He decides to pull me over for my tinted windows of all things. Something so petty but was obviously an attempt to indtimdate me and encourage me not to come back to Elysian Park. Few people get pulled over tinted windows now because we all have them yet the laws are not enforced here. So for a cop to pull me over for my tinted windows made it clear to me that it was an attempt to drive me out of the park and make it look as if I am not welcome there.

Um, what many of you are missing entirely is that in most jurisdictions--because MOST of the police in most of those places don't like us queers, period--you don't even have to be exhibiting sexual behavior *at all* in order to be arrested, ticketed, cited, or chased off with a threat of arrest: YOU ARE GUILTY IN THEIR EYES BY SIMPLY BEING A SINGLE MALE. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've seen straight couples get caught "in flagrante" and the police laugh it off...and they see a single guy sitting back reading a book, and he is ordered to leave or be ticketed or arrested. WHY? Are YOU going to be next? It pisses me off that my tax dollars get wasted by police expressing their own prejudice by attempting to enforce morality, whether it be in a park or a bookstore. Chicago has daytime shootings on busy streets, open-air drug dealing, and rampant graffiti "artists"...and police feel the need to go after US. It's no different anywhere else. CHANGE IT.

I expect that my tax money is spent on police protection from crimes everywhere not police inventing crime and doing violence.

Art-NO-la. I can hardly read your tripe. The warnings you make are what homophobic trolls make against ALL gay sex. Don't do it. It's a risk. .Freedom means we choose risks for ourselves, not you for us. Get a life. And I don't cruise in parks but don't worry about other people's sex lives. You are scum.

One more thing. In these days of STDs, HIV/AIDS, gay bashing, and other lunatics just out to do harm for sport, why are so many people still practicing such incredibly risky behavior with total strangers? How stupid and/or careless are people today? I would love to see all the complaints about why the police are so ineffective in catching the person targeting gay men crusing public parks.

Shame, shame, shame on any hater who posts here against the gay guys entraped by the vice squad. If others going into the bushes at midnight is so shocking to you, you are really stupid and a yenta as small minded as those against GLBT rights.

Those who can do (have great not-approved-by-mommy sex in the park and elsewhere) those who can't, are afraid, whine against here. Like anyone seeks your judgement. Reap the conservative narrowness you sow. Sorry, internet trolls, you are tired
