Mexican Singer: I'd Rather My Kid Die Than Be Adopted by Gays

Paquita la del Barrio X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

A popular Mexican singer known for her camp value and feminist ethos slammed adoption by gays and said she's rather see her child die than be raised by gay people.

In a Spanish-language interview with People en Espanol, Paquita la del Barrio said that she was adamantly against adoption by gays and that children raised by same-sex couples wouldn't know who to call mom and who to call dad. The 62-year-old singer added that she had no problem with same-sex marriage.

I see what you are saying dieter, and agree with most of it. You cannot stand someone that hates or makes such ridiculous comment as she did and you told Brad to continue being a bigot, but what are you doing when you are calling her a bean picker. That is not the message anyone should be sending. I am all for gun rights and so on but violence is never the answer no matter how stupid ones comments may be. I applaud you for being a strong and independent gay man, but for people with ignorant ideas and comments, they are just not worth responding to.

Old world thinking with all its harshness. Now, she is paying for it which she should. But let’s face it, there are plenty of people in America who think children should be with a “man and woman”, which is code for a heterosexual man and woman and apparently one or both sexes will do as long as they’re straight. They don’t even have to be good parents, but somehow they’ll bring them up “right”. Of course many straight’s use “the kids will be discriminated against” angle when they are the one’s doing the discrimination – so stop it. Most people have no idea what it is to be gay or lesbian past the stereotypes and bogeyman scenarios. To them there’s no diversity. Regardless of sexuality, not every person wants the responsibility of children but everyone should have the right. After all who would be better at raising gay and lesbian kids than gays and lesbians – that’s a joke, sort of.

This singer's generousity of spirit and enlightened humanism shines brilliantly. NOT! Idiots come in every nationality, race, gender and age. With all due respect, her children will never have to worry about being adopted or dying since she is well beyond the range of productive procreation. Time and the Divine have solved that crushing issue for her.

Oh look, someone famous in Mexico is ignorant. Why is this news? What about all the parents who threaten to kill their own children or abandon them when they turn out to be gay?

Oh please, at 62, SHE will be the one who is likely to be dead before anyone being raised by GLBT parents today cares about what some 2nd rate Mexican singer thinks about. As far as I'm concerned, she can go f@ck herself.

Rene, with all due respect I think you're preaching to the wrong camp. The LGBT community is comprised of some of the most tolerant, respecting and socially acceptive people in the world. Contrary to what you say, the people that have posted comments ARE NOT trashing each other and those that don't necessarily agree with our "lifestyle" (as you put it). We are, however, responding to one of the cruelest statements ever made by a human being, "a famous Latin American figure" (again, as you put it). For ANYONE, famous or not, to wish death upon their child, nonetheless in reference to same-sex parents is a sick, twisted human being and the comments posted about her are quite friendly in my opinion, given what this woman said. Rene, the LGBT community does not need to be educated as you proclaim, the hate-filled bigots such as this woman do, however.

I'm ashamed of all the negative comments from the gay community towards this woman. Keep in mind that, yes an ignorant statement, but as we try to make our gay lifestyles fit the rest of the world, we ourselves are still bashing eachother, parading ourselves like fools in ridiculous outfits on public display for those ignorant people to base an opinion towards the rest of the gay community. You who call her a drag queen are insulting that circle of gays. How about a response to her with positivity, not the same ignorant words just to get back at her. She is a famous latin America figure & we can gain from her by approaching this matter through the words of intelligent, professional ,and compassionate gays/ not this, overall, gay trash haters. Let's see a gay pride parade that shows doctors, firemen, police officers, lawyers, teachers, decent state and national government leaders- then maybe a different opinion would be made of us as a whole. Ignorance is done away by example not hate.
